Day Nollywood made giant strides with new Yoruba series, Alagbara

Sunday, 18th November 2018 will remain indelible in the minds of entertainment stakeholders, especially those in the acting profession popularly called Nollywood.

Most of the most mentioned and visible names in the industry were present to witness the berth of a new dawn for the Yoruba genre of the industry; the ‘Alagbara’ Series, exclusively sponsored by satellite TV platform, StarTimes and produced by Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello).

Alagbara, the long awaited TV series powered by StarTimes was premiered at the Classique event centre, Kudirat Abiola Way Oregun, Lagos with cast and crew of the series, marketers, advertisers, media, as well as representatives from the company behind the series in full attendance.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of StarTimes, Justin Zhang, “As some of you may know, ‘Alagbara’ is a production so dear to our heart at StarTimes because it is the first production to be commissioned by any country branch at StarTimes, and what better way to do this than in one of the most popular languages in the world, the Yoruba Language.

“For me, I feel very proud to be associated with the Yoruba language and its deep cultural heritage. Sometimes, I even feel like I am a Yoruba man.

Our contribution to the Nigerian Movie Industry has just set new standards with the production of ‘Alagbara’. From my experience of watching Yoruba movies, I have no doubt that this is one of the best produced series ever done in Yoruba language, and I want to congratulate Oga Bello and his entire team for a job well done.

“With this production, we are further taking the Yoruba Language globally while teaching key lessons to the viewers all around Africa and we will not stop there.

We are committed to taking the Nigerian movie industry to a higher level.

We will ensure that both the young and old Nigerians who are talented in this industry get a platform to show their work.

“We will continue to support as many talented movie producers as possible to produce great movies and series good enough to be exported out of Nigeria. As ‘Alagbara’ begins to air on our channels tonight, more than 13 million African homes and 10 million users of StarTimes ON, our mobile app, will get the opportunity to enjoy the good work you have put into it”, he said.

The CEO of StarTimes Nigeria, made it known that Nigerians should be ready for more great productions with other veteran actors in the country.

He noted another season of ‘Alagbara’ has also been shot and the brand will do all within her reach to continually support the Nigerian movie industry through various laudable initiatives.

Adebayo Salami, in his reaction, said that, “The 26-episode series focuses on the power, influence and manipulative abilities of women in the society. Everyone will find the series interesting.

It focuses on and how men are controlled, manipulated, influenced, and reshaped by the women in their lives”.

Other highlights of the event included the electrifying performances by the artiste that produced the sound track for ‘Alagbara’ and a bata drum orchestra called Karkarkey percussion led by Oladeji Oreofe.

The audience had an opportunity to preview an episode of the series.

The series, which began airing on Sunday night, comes with an impressive cast of award winning Nollywood stars including Ronke Ashodi Oke, Toyin Adegbola, Yemi Solade, Femi Adebayo, Sotayo, Dele Odule, Bukky Arugba, among others.
