Kaduna people who turned out to cast their votes at the local government chairmanship and councilorship elections held in Kaduna on Saturday have expressed their joy over the Electronic Voting Machine used in the election .

Findings revealed that even though, there were challenges at the commencement of the exercise like late arrival of materials, late voting, mix-up in staff deployment to polling centres among others, the turn out of voters in various centres across the state was very impressive.

While in other polling units, the turn out of voters was very low as it was gathered majority of the people are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) .

For instance at Unguwar Rimi ward of Kaduna North Local government, the turn out of voters was very impressive. When Tribune Online visited the ward, a source who pleaded for anonymity remarked that they were on the queue since around 8.07am.

It was learnt that three people were contesting for the councilorship position in the ward and they are Ibrahim Ahmed of the All Progressive Congress (APC ),Waziri Tanko of the People’s Demo Party (PDP) and Nura Ismail of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).

A voter who gave his name as Ibrahim Musa remarked that when he was about to use the electronic Voting Machine to cast his vote he was apprehensive but he later discovered that in less than five minutes he had cast his vote.

Similarly, at LEA, primary school Lokoja road, Kaduna, where there was two centres 414 and 415 , the voting machine became darling of the voters.

One of the accredited voter, who wouldn’t like his name on print revealed that the voting machine was working perfectly, saying, when you touch a button, you will hear a voice dictating to you. It is simply marvelous.

As of the time of filling this report, there were no cases of election violence or break down of law and order.

It will be recalled that 31 political parties had earlier announced that they were boycotting the election citing security reasons among others but the main opposition party, the PDP has said it would be participating in the LG poll.
