Your Weekly Music Fix #15

It’s so surreal how much amazing music there is to be discovered. It blows my mind every time I find a song or a band which fills me up with emotions, energy, and passion and I realize how long they have been around and I never noticed them. I’m happy there is lots to discover and I will keep doing my best to not let all those talented and hard-working artist escape my radar for too long. As usual, I invite you to enjoy my week of music discoveries – check out the full collection of songs in my Spotify or YouTube playlist.

NF – The Search

For the weekly dose of hip-hop, I have an artist I feature quite often once again. Well, I do put his music in the playlist that often for a reason and his newest release (after almost a year of silence) is another thought-provoking and emotionally striking firey track.

Funny thing is I was talking about things very similar, identical even, to the topics NF explores in The Search with a friend of mine just the day before it came out. This cannot be a coincidence. The track is without a doubt impactful and as Nate himself says – he’s been dealing with things like every other human being has to. Apparently depressive thoughts and overwhelming stress didn’t miss their chance to haunt the hip-hop artist’s mind and he explains and gets deep into what has been troubling him this time.

The lyrics of the song are strictly on point and explore unavoidable (sadly) mental states. NF is, as he has always been, completely raw and real and the execution of the song is great. The video is extremely well-fitting and well shot matching the topic of the song and representing the mental state with the perfect imagery and metaphorical environment. In terms of sound, style, and flow (I even dare say topics actually) The Search is pretty much what NF has been doing for the past few albums – it has the overwhelming power, mild aggression, and sharp lyrics. And that’s not a bad thing but I would really love to hear him switch it up in some way with the upcoming album.

Another thing I noticed is the strong resemblance to Token’s Code Red in terms of flow, delivery, and surprisingly filming of the video. The same effects of shaking the camera and focus when the beat drops are present and this is f*cking sick! Great track for sure, amazing video and I am definitely looking forward to seeing what NF comes up with next (judging by the end of the video there will be a development/sequel).

Written By Wolves – Genius

An amazing new discovery is this overpowering and hyperenergetic Written By Wolves track. The song is just a delight and a definition of what I call explosive rock – progressive instrumentals, clear and powerful vocals, playful and witty lyrics, and an energy which will keep you charged for quite some time. You will most likely hum the chorus for days after you hear the song and the crazy dance moves from the video will occupy your mind and urge you to try them out in the club next time. Check out their other songs for some quality rock music.

Childish Gambino – 3005

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this Childish Gambino song. Modern rap with great storytelling, catchy beats, great flow, and a story behind the song – it’s worth the shot, isn’t it? The video makes the song even better with a great subtle metaphor and for some unknown for me, way fits the song perfectly. 3005 sounds like a love song on the first glance but getting deeper into the lyrics it easily turns into an existential open letter exploring the depth of Gambino‘s mind – all of this done in a way which will most likely make you want to dance.

Ren – Jenny’s Tale

Speaking of quality storytelling and things that are worth checking out I had to put this one here. When I say the story from the lyrics comes to life when Ren performs it I really mean it – his passion and heartfelt performance are amazing and it makes the story visualize in your mind easily. His uplifting melodies contrast sharply with the tragedy of the song and the video corresponding to the setting of the story make the song even better and more affecting. It is definitely worth checking out.

Wild Child – Crazy Bird

I have a thing for weird but well-representing music video. And Wild Child’s Crazy Bird definitely has that + amazing sound, great lyrics, and resonating meaning and emotion. The song will get you hooked since the first few seconds and you will get entrenched into the story easily. The great sound and appealing vocals are only a bonus and the well-thought video will enhance the joyful experience even further. Wild Child will without a doubt make you think and travel back in your memories – check them out.

Joy Division – She’s Lost Control

Going to end this post with a classic old-school high-quality rock music. Joy Division is an amazing band with a dark and unfavorable fate. I actually saw the movie Control about Ian Curtis and his struggle with epilepsy and depression a few days ago and this made me remember and get re-obsessed with the band.

The movie itself was quite depressing and honestly not that good (it was shot very, very well tho) but it did a great job in telling the story of Ian and helping people understand his situation and struggle more. The sad fate of the vocalist strikes a cord in your heart and emotions for sure but it helps understand the songs he wrote and the story behind each line of lyrics perfectly well. This particular one is amongst my favorites and shows the true emotion and sincerity of Joy Division quite well.

I hope you enjoyed this week of music discoveries and thanks a lot for joining me on my musical journey!
