Your Weekly Music Fix #12

Your Weekly Music Fix #12

Rammstein made a memorable return this week and this is the main inspiration behind the 12th weekly music fix. Of course, a mix of great new music and old but gold tracks is included in the playlist to make it a diverse and enjoyable experience. It was a great musical journey for me, once again, and I hope you also enjoy the songs I picked. Check the Spotify and YouTube playlists to see if there is something you fancy in there.

By the way, the YouTube playlist contains several songs which are not on Spotify so if you want the full list check that one out.

Rammstein – Deutschland

Calling Rammstein legends and master performers would be an understatement. The band has been a symbol of independence refusing to follow any restrictions or constraints and get affected by opinions, constantly proving their baldness and superiority with provocative music videos and lyrics. Not to mention they put up the most entertaining live shows the world has ever seen. The German titans are back with a smashing return and incredibly well-constructed and directed (as usual) music videos.

It is phenomenal how much the band has achieved and their current status as one of the best metal/hard rock acts that ever existed. Only singing in German those guys can convey meaning and depth not only with lyrics but also with incredible videos which might be one of the reasons for their immense worldwide popularity. Their new single Deutschland is not an exception and marked their dominating return on the 28th of March. Their new album will be available on the 17th of May and can be pre-ordered in their official website (tracklist is announced there).

Now, talking about the art of Rammstein can take a while so I will try to keep it short. One thing is undeniable – their return is as powerful as expected. The video of the song is a short movie focused around the concept of Deutschland which as you might expect revolves around Germany as a country.

Getting deep into the meaning of the song can be tricky if your native language is not German so I had to seek reliable translation. An extremely relevant song especially considering the band’s relationship with their home country. Incredible wordplay is once again included to make the meaning stronger and emphasize the seriousness of the song (yes, this is one of their songs with an actually serious message and lyrical content). Also, the song is very well structured and focuses on the most important adjectives describing Lindemann‘s feelings and Germany as a country. Needless to say, the sound is beyond explosive and will make you burn with passion and energy -typical for Rammstein‘s style of work. A home-hitting hard rock style mixed with modern electronics to create an amazing new wave sound which might as well define the genre in the future.

My favorite aspect of the entire act is definitely the video which is a great short film depicting Germany in its highs and (mostly focusing on the) lows. Making the story of the song come to life the video also showcases highest level filming and acting also including the band itself (their acting talent is something visible in many other videos as well as in live shows). An incredible masterpiece no matter how you look at it.

Be sure to check out the other single recently released – Radio  (also a very interesting song to look into) and in case you are new to the art of the German titans take a look at some cool live stunts they have performed during the years. Last, but not least in case you are interested in the song and want to know more about the meaning and all the things impossible to spot unless you are a native German check this awesome video out. Onto the next one!

Bring Me TheHorizon – Mother Tongue

Now, this one is not a new release, new discovery, or anything like that. It is a song which I have talked about enough in the past, however, it is a splendid masterpiece which hits emotionally hard and explains and unexplainable feeling quite well. The reason BMTH‘s pop-rock anthem is in the blog post today is the release of the new video which, as expected from the band, is simply a delight.

The storytelling in the video completes the beautiful song in a (literally) gravity-defying way. Honestly, I was actually expecting that Oli‘s wife – the inspiration of the song will make an appearance or that the video will tell their personal story but what we got is also amazing in terms of depicting the topics of the song. Speaking the language of your loved one takes a different meaning in this elevating love story and the combined footage of the band slowly starting to lift off in the air while performing just makes it complete. An amazing song which got an amazing video – another step forward for the band.

Cobus – Backstreet Boys – Larger Than Life (Drum Cover)

Finally time for the new discovery – Cobus is a drummer I accidentally found on YouTube and his incredibly vivid passion and enjoyment of the art of playing the drums captivated me and won my heart.

The cover is a wonderful tribute to Backstreet Boys and the song is simply amazing and inspirational but this is not the most important aspect of the video. The speed, grace, rhythm, precision, and incredible passion of Cobus is worth paying attention to as well. It is clear that the drummer is set to blow up and he is doing what he is doing out of pure love for the music – notice the occasional subtle smiles he lets off and his incredible accuracy to follow the pace of the song. Not only a delight for the ears but also for the eyes! Check the boy out, it’s worth it – he has covers of variety of songs all of which he does flawlessly!

Andy Black – We Don’t Have To Dance

This face might be more familiar for some of you as the lead vocalist of Black Veil Brides – the goth metal/glam rock act that had their peak in the 2011-2012s. Their contribution to the music world is undeniable and we are lucky to also see Andy Black develop and experiment in more classic rock type of style with his two solo albums – The Shadow Side and The Ghost of Ohio.

Listening to Black Veil Brides you can already tell this boy has a talent and great passion for music – his voice is simply incredible. However, I have to say that his solo work is where he shines most and the soothing and extremely attractive and affecting voice of his shows it’s true potential. His way of singing, his lyrics, his well-executed style and image – everything is on the spot and contributes to a great music experience. Definitely worth checking him out. The particular song is one of my personal favorites and has everything a classic rock anthem should have – from the sound to the meaning and metaphors.

MØ – Nostalgia

I am recently getting more and more attracted to ‘s music and I have no regrets. She is an amazing artist and her songs are extremely relatable, emotional, and usually personal. Her way of mixing retro and modern and her creativity when it comes to music videos is something I admire and listening to her music can always set you in the right mood.

It was nearly impossible to choose which song to feature here but I decided to go with one of my recent favorites. Nostalgia is one of the most personal and intimate songs of and as she herself admits it holds a part of her soul and past. Once again a super relatable song with great lyrics and personal storytelling which also has incredible dancy sound and a retro feel mixed with modern sounds. The video is also a gem which contributes to the overall message and story of the song!

This is a must hear cover and a must see movie so I cannot end the post without leaving it here. Simply stunning.

It was another great week for music – I hope you enjoyed it, stay tuned for more discoveries in the future!
