Weekly Music Fix #3

Another Sunday, another weekly music fix. This week has been a balance of new music discoveries and revived and reinspired passions. I have collected the music for the week by taking in recommendations and suggestions from you guys, by randomly coming across some familiar songs I haven’t heard in a while, and by giving a chance to the Spotify playlists and YouTube recommendations. I have to say I am happy with the result and even though at the beginning of the week I thought this week’s playlist will have a certain type of vibe, in the end, it turned out to be completely random and quite diverse. So I am hoping you will find something of your liking there and you will enjoy the blog!

So before I get to it here are the links for the updated playlists collecting my favorite songs of the week:

As I said this week was quite diverse and it was a real challenge to find out which of the songs and artists to talk about and which only to add in the playlist without saying anything. The new artists I discovered definitely deserved to be discussed so I couldn’t skip them but I just wanted to say that I have lots to say about the other songs on the playlist as well and hopefully I will get to it one day. What I have in this blog is definitely the highlights of the week so enjoy it and let me know how you like the playlists!

1. Athmosphere – The Waitress

Those guys are the O’Henry of music. And in case you don’t know who O’Henry is – he is an American short story writer who is well-known for his surprise endings and plot twists. Atmosphere really got me with the catchy tunes and masterful storytelling in their songs. A true delight to listen to and super easy to immerse into the story. Things only get better when you reach the end of the song and you realize that what you thought it was about has nothing to do with the actual situation. This particular song together with Yesterday really got me by surprise with their very last lines of lyrics and I was like “Wait… what”?

Apart from being unexpected, the songs are really well structured. Catchy tunes and great lyrics telling super personal and emotional stories. Great quality of hip-hop music which I definitely recommend.

2. Half•Alive- Still Feel

This is the definition of upbeat. Super energizing and uplifting band which you will find easy to get obsessed with for sure. Once again – my favorite type of reminder – this particular song is one of my top picks but I highly recommend checking out the discography of the band.

Half•Alive have a perfect balance of several very memorable things. First off, their sound is amazing – modern but vintage, energizing but calming, and super catchy. They have a vibe which will make you get up from your seat and start dancing in a way heavily influenced by their unique and mesmerizing dance moves. This leads me to the second memorable thing – their choreography and videos are pure aesthetics. They move in sync and watching their videos is like watching one of those Facebook 100% satisfaction videos but with good music on top. Aesthetics with amazing sound and kickstarting energy. What else? Great lyrics of course, and Half•Alive has that as well. I haven’t explored them in their eternity but what I heard from the band had great lyrical content once again blending personal emotions and subtle metaphors for issues from a bigger scale. In overall, the band is a definite must hear – be prepared to lift your spirits and take in the aesthetics of the trio!

3. Claire Laffut – La Fessée

I couldn’t find the English translation of the song so I used Google Translate to try and understand the lyrics. Naturally, not much came out of it but it the pseudo-translation confirms my idea that the song is super emotional and is (similarly to one of my other top picks of the week – Wish You Were Gay by Billie Eilish) about a memorable experience of the singer in terms of love life and relationships. The song is super addictive and the chorus will stay in your head regardless if you speak French or not. The sound is really nice and mellow and even if you do not understand the language you will definitely feel the emotion and fall inlove with this song.

4. Lana Del Rey – Big Eyes

Another song which is not a new discovery but a revived addiction. Due to favorable circumstances, I got reminded of the existence of this song and I have been overplaying it for a while. It is simply addictive and hypnotizing. The song is also part of the soundtrack of a movie which I dare to say is a masterpiece – Big Eyes (a Tim Burton movie). I have to say Lana Del Rey‘s style and vibe perfectly match the signature touch of Tim Burton and she definitely contributes to the impact and overall look of the movie.

Lana is another incredible artist whose entire discography is flawless and must-hear. Big Eyes is just an example of her uniqueness and way of transmitting various emotions and states of mind. She is astonishingly melancholic and captivating with her sound and if I dare to say dramatic voice. I don’t think anyone can resist falling in love with her music.

5. Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Slow Cheetah

This is not a new music discovery or a new release but a song which has been with me for years and I occasionally get back to. I have a never-ending love and respect for Red Hot Chilli Peppers and when I realized I haven’t really talked about them in this blog I felt quite bad, to be honest.

The reason I got back to this song and the entire Stadium Arcadium album this particular week was that I was lucky enough to find the Mars vs Jupiter version of the album in an antique CD and Vynil shop. This lead to a very long and repetitive listening session of the album and a renewed passion for the band.

The song is perfect in all senses for me and I can never get enough of it. Lyrics with incredibly subtle meaning and references sang with so calming and relaxing voice. As expected from Red Hot Chilli Peppers the sound is of the highest quality and has the uniqueness of the band and their distinguishable and memorable vibe and feel. Slow Cheetah touches a very interesting topic and is an amazing metaphor which transmits the message with its soothing and escalating sound and mesmerizing lyrics. The song starts and ends with a calming acoustic instrumental which is just the perfect introduction and ending to the song. To make it better a mellow voice gradually builds up to the chorus which is louder and faster – the song is a slow cheetah itself. Hypnotizing and relaxing the song will leave you with many thoughts and emotions and is just one of the countless examples of the genius of Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

So there we have it – another week of music covered and discussed. I hope you enjoyed this post and the music associated with it and thanks a lot for reading! I will hopefully be back soon with more diverse blogs and with another music fix next week.
