The Flow State of Tash Sultana

I have been jumping from one topic to another the past few days when it comes to this blog. I really want to get back to writing on more diverse topics, but to be completely honest the only things that I am able to finish and feel okay sharing are music blogs. So my apologies if it’s not your cup of tea. I would highly appreciate if you share your ideas about what you want me to talk about and I will be sure to comment on it and share it. Apart from that, I have several ideas for future blogs, mostly music related (but not only) – one thing for sure, Bring Me The Horizon are releasing Amo on the 25th and I will for sure be here with a review!

We are here to talk about this particular phenomenon today

With that being said, let’s get to the actual topic of this current blog. I want to talk about an artist I have briefly mentioned before but whose music and art I have not yet discussed properly. And I think it’s about time.

If you haven’t yet heard about Tash Sultana – she is an Australian singer and songwriter who people describe as a “one-person band” and an “explosive live artist”. Let me show you:

I remember seeing an interview with her where she said she doesn’t really like when people refer to her with this particular song and she really hates being defined by it since it does not describe her well and is very limiting.

And I agree, this is definitely not everything she is capable of, but there are several reasons this is the first video I am sharing when I’m talking about her. First of all, this was the video and the song which introduced me to her art. This is also a good way to see how she started – from recording her songs in her bedroom (you can even see her mom sneaking in at 2:23) and when you see where she is now (sold out venues all over the world) you get a sense of accomplishment which fills your soul (or maybe its just me?). Also, it is very obvious how much she enjoys doing what she is doing and how passionate she is about her music – her gestures, her movement, the way she sings – everything just says “I was born to do this”. Furthermore, the song is simply amazing and is an entire experience itself – from the magical instrumental to the deep and lovely lyrics – it takes you to a different world. A better world.

Just so you can see the passion and energy yourself

Tash is an artist who you have to hear, see, and understand yourself. What I personally like about her is that she gives me a very specific and really great feeling of freedom and purity. She just has this type of energy. Her songs are extremely hypnotic and relaxing and can take you away from whatever you are doing and bring you to a place where you can ease up and also contemplate about your life and the rest of the world (not in a pressuring and demanding way).

The album which inspired this blog

Tash Sultana‘s latest album – Flow State is a perfect example of what I am talking about. Except being everything I described above and giving you the perfect escape from the world it is a step forward for the music of the artist. There is a clear difference and progress when you compare Flow State with her previous EP – Notion (don’t get me wrong it is also amazing).

Can we also take a moment to appreciate the amazing art of her album covers

While Notion is more melancholic and slow, Flow State has an incredible progression of hyperenergetic solos which will make you leap as well as contrasting relaxing and easy going melodies and thought-provoking lyrics. Tash herself described this album as something which “gave me access to a part of my mind known as my being… something I am extremely passionate about.” And this becomes clear when you listen to the whole piece – the tracks flow from one to another so smoothly it is hard to tell when a new one is starting. They explore happiness and being in a peaceful state of mind – being where you have to be and being able to enjoy it. The whole hypnotic and mesmerizing vibe which Tash transmits so well is still preserved and the entire album is an interesting and constantly changing journey – one definitely worth going on.

I really find the album magical and it recharges me with energy and positivity. And when the album is over it makes me come back to the real world and take a look back at my own journey in life. It helps me focus.

Now, I understand why Tash hates being defined by Jungle, and I definitely think Flow State describes her way better.

Thanks a lot for reading and I really hope you will enjoy the music of another Australian miracle as much as I do. I am leaving you with my favorite song and video from Flow State.
