Dr. Arundhati Pawar

Learning never stops. Living and practicing this philosophy every single day is Dr. Arundhati Pawar, a Radiologist by education and an Administrator by choice, who has almost 25 years’ of experience in the healthcare industry.

Currently working at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Medical College (BVDUMC) as an Associate Professor in Radiology and as Deputy Medical Director, Dr. Arundhati Pawar is also the Director of Operations for the Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Medical Foundation (Office of Health Sciences) and is involved with 7 hospitals from various streams of Medicine, such as Allopathy, Ayurveda, Dental and Homeopathy.

As mentioned above, years of teaching post graduates Radiology at BVDUMC wasn’t enough. Wanting to challenge her-self, Dr. Arundhati Pawar successfully completed two fellowships in Pediatric Radiology in Australia; she chose to return to India to make a difference here than lead a life of luxury in Australia.  Pushing herself further she also took a course to become a NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) Assessor, to bring Quality assurance to the healthcare sector. A student for life, she recently successfully acquired two post graduate diplomas: in Healthcare management and Medicolegal systems.

Bharati hospital was one of the first hospitals in the city of Pune to establish a dedicated Covid Centre and managed to nurse them at the peak of the pandemic. They had 350 positive patients including very serious ones.

Being part of the core administrative team, Dr. Arundhati Pawar took care of many logistical issues, which included keeping the staff together and motivated. Even Non patient related activities, such as educating the people about Covid were conducted, even on social media. Lectures were conducted in Saswad and Purandar. She was also was part of all of the series and delivered a talk on “Management of OPD in Covid 19” which was very well received. It was aired live simultaneously on you tube, thus increasing the outreach.

Dr. Arundhati Pawar headed the entire operation of establishing Covid centres at Kadegaon and Turchi, which had 30 beds each and were fully equipped, including semi- ventilator units.

The centre at Kadegaon was established in a facility meant to be a canteen/mess for college students. It was a huge challenge to arrange and manage infrastructural changes, oxygen piping, man power etc. even outsourcing services like laboratory and imaging had to be managed. Turchi was a little less challenging as we were establishing it in the existing health facility of Bharati Vidyapeeth. She did immense field research as well to ensure she understands the requirements.

The NGO Amhi Punekar in conjunction with the Government of Maharashtra bestowed on Dr. Arundhati Pawar an award for her achievements in society.

Dr. Arundhati Pawar has been assisting other doctors as well and has been a programe lead for a project of mask distribution in lower socio economic groups in Pune, by a group of doctors as part of practice of Disaster Medicine. The activity was conducted in conjunction with Saving Lives NGO and Rotatry club of Birmingham, UK. Active member of the Disaster medicine team in Pune and lead for Western India for Disaster medicine through the above said group.
