Internet Marketing War 101: 3 Content Marketing Tips you need to Know

When planning a content Marketing campaign, there are a few things you must understand in order to be successful. In today’s fast-paced world, traditional advertising is like fighting a war with single-shot muskets. If you fire enough times, sooner or later you’re going to score a hit, but it’s an outdated weapon being used against a much more target.

Modern audiences are accustomed to old-fashioned ads, often ignoring them, or outright blocking them from their lives.

They opt for watching Netflix, or other forms of video streaming, instead of bothering with traditional television. They install AdBlock on their phones and other devices, stopping them from seeing banner ads or other commercials. They simply refuse to engage.

Content marketing is like the Trojan Horse in this scenario. It seems innocuous; a gift rather than a weapon. After all, it’s a helpful video series about fixing cars or a blog dedicated to snarky movie reviews; it couldn’t possibly be an ad.

Because of this perception, your audience lets down their guard. They take you inside their walls, and you end up right inside their city. That’s just where you want to be. Because the more of your content they consume, the more loyal to you they’re going to be. This means you can put out a call to action, and that audience is much more likely to listen and respond.

Content marketing isn’t easy, though. If you’re gearing up for that kind of battle, here are a few tips you should keep in mind.

3 Content Marketing Tips You Need To Know

Tip #1: Content Is NOT an Ad

The purpose of content marketing is to bypass your audience’s defenses and to make them regard you positively as a company.

However, to do that, your content has to be content!

That means it’s not an ad in sheep’s clothing. You need to create content people want to see, and consume. Only once you’ve gotten an audience who wants more of your content can you start peppering in calls to action, and suggestions for how to shop. That’s further down the line; first, you have to make good content.

Content is King! This a mantra that successful internet marketers live by. Quality content is the most important thing you can offer in order to turn people into a consisten audience. If your content does not teach or entertain the viewer you will not be too successful.

Creating quality is difficult and time-consuming, but the potential results make taking that extra time and effort well worth it.

Tip #2: You Have To Be Seen

You could be making the best content the Internet has ever seen, but it won’t do you any good if no one sees it. You can’t just make the content, put it on your blog or video channel, and expect people to flock to it like sharks to blood.

You have to go to your audience, and do everything in your power to get your content seen.

That means you should get on social media, and broadcast your content every time you put out new stuff. You should use SEO techniques to make sure your content is easy to find with search engines. Backlink to older pieces so that nothing ever truly dies. You need to promote your content and cultivate an audience, for content marketing to do what you want.

Tip #3: Make Your Calls To Action Simple, and Straightforward

Once you have an audience hooked, you’re going to want to mobilize them toward a particular end. You might want them to share your latest content, thus spreading your reach. You might want them to go to your store and make a purchase. You might want them to sign up for your mailing list.

Whatever it is that you want, make it clear. Also, focus on a single call to action, rather than putting a dozen at the end of your content. Asking an interested audience to do one thing is easy, but getting them to do a dozen different things is nearly impossible.

Remember, there are not shortcuts, only best practices you can follow, to creating quality content and running a successful content marketing campaign. You will not see great results overnight, it is a journey and you have to be prepared to play the long game.

These are, of course, just a few of the more basic things you need to do to run a successful content marketing campaign.
