Last week it was reported that Whatsapp is working on the ability to edit sent messages. Now a new report has surfaced online suggesting that the Meta-owned platform is working on another interesting feature which will enable users to lock individual chats.
WABetaInfo, the Twitter account which keeps track of the changes in WhatsApp build, has revealed that the instant messaging app is planning to roll out a new feature which will enable the users to lock individual chat. With this upcoming feature, WhatsApp users will be allowed to lock specific chats and also keep them hidden.
The report further adds that users will be able to lock and open the specific chat using their fingerprint. Also, the locked chats will be kept separate from the other unlocked chats offering more privacy to the users. The feature is presently under development and is expected to roll out with future updates.
WhatsApp reportedly banned more than 45 lakh accounts in India
Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp has banned more than 45 lakh accounts in India. The company has stated in its monthly report for India that these accounts were banned in accordance with the new IT Rules 2021. As part of its monthly user safety report, which is mandated under the Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules, 2021, the instant messaging platform WhatsApp discloses these figures every month.
In February, WhatsApp received an all-time high of 2,804 complaint reports in the country, out of which 504 reports were “actioned”. The term “Accounts Actioned” refers to reports where remedial measures were taken based on the complaints received. This action may include either banning an account or reinstating a previously banned account as a result of the complaint.
