Looking ahead to 2023: Gen Next is here

Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda
While everyone was expecting Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan to follow in his footsteps in front of the camera, it is daughter Suhana who is all set to make her acting debut this year. She has finished shooting her maiden movie, The Archies, under the direction of Zoya Akhtar. What makes this Netflix offering eagerly anticipated is that it also stars Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, and Boney Kapoor and the late Sridevi’s younger daughter Khushi. The first look of the film, based on the popular comic book series, has generated tremendous buzz. Everyone is waiting with bated breath to see the three newcomers, who come with a rich legacy, shine on the screen. While Suhana and Khushi’s next move is awaited, Agastya has signed Sriram Raghavan’s next, Ikkis. He plays Param Vir Chakra awardee Arun Khetarpal, who sacrificed his life in the Battle of Basantar during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Interestingly, Agastya replaces Varun Dhawan, who was confirmed for the martyr’s biopic three years ago.

Palak Tiwari
Shweta Tiwari’s daughter Palak was to foray into the movies with Rosie: The Saffron Chapter, starring Vivek Oberoi. While the film didn’t materialise, Salman Khan came to her rescue and cast her in his next, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. Even as director Farhad Samji is readying the family entertainer for an Eid release, Palak has signed her next, The Virgin Tree. The horror-comedy is produced by Sanjay Dutt, who also stars in the movie alongside Mouni Roy and Sunny Singh.

Pashmina Roshan
Hrithik Roshan’s cousin and daughter of veteran composer Rajesh Roshan, Pashmina makes her debut with Ishq Vishk Rebound. Inclined towards acting since her teens, she studied acting at the Jeff Goldberg Studio and subsequently made her stage debut with The Importance of Being Earnest (2019). The campus romance is director Nipun Dharmadikari’s take on the 2003 hit, Ishq Vishk, which starred Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao.

Ibrahim Ali Khan
Ibrahim Ali Khan follows in the footsteps of his actor-parents Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, and sister Sara Ali Khan. After assisting Karan Johar on Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani last year, Ibrahim will face the camera this time around. Not surprisingly, his role in the yet-untitled film, which also marks the feature directorial debut of Boman Irani’s son Kayoze, is being kept closely guarded. Kajol and south star Prithviraj Sukumaran play pivotal parts in this emotional thriller.

Shanaya Kapoor
Industry insiders are hopeful that Maheep and Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya finally makes it to the screens this year. Previously, she was to make her debut with Karan Johar’s production and director Shashank Khaitan’s Dono Mile Iss Tarah. But the pandemic thwarted their plans. Khaitan then announced Bedhadak with Shanaya, but the movie has seen delays,  although KJo has clarified that the film will release in 2023.

Alizeh Agnihotri
Salman Khan’s niece, and Atul and Alvira Agnihotri’s daughter Alizeh is said to have opted for an unconventional launch pad. She has finished shooting her debut, yet untitled, under the direction of Soumendra Padhi, who previously helmed the National Award-winning film, Budhia Singh: Born To Run, and the web series Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega. Interestingly, Alizeh has reportedly finalised her second outing too, director Vikas Bahl’s remake of the French-Belgian film, La Famille Belier.

Junaid Khan
Aamir Khan’s son Junaid has chosen a hatke subject for his big debut. Backed by YRF, the period drama, titled Maharaja, helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra is set around the 1860s. Junaid plays the journalist and social reformer Karsandas Mulji who was sued by Jadunathji Brijratanji Maharaj, a religious figure for publishing a piece that questioned the principles of the Vallabhacharya Sampradaya, a Hindu sect of which the latter was a member.
