BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X Launched in India with Insane Pricing

BlackBerry’s Indian licensee, Optiemus Infracom has today launched two new smartphones – The Blackberry Evolve and Evolve X, in India. Both the smartphones feature Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5, Series 7000 aluminium frame, and a BlackBerry textured and rubberised back panel. The specifications and the features of the smartphones look promising but the price is insanely high. A wide range of smartphones with far better specifications are available at almost half the prices.

BlackBerry Evolve X and Evolve price and availability

The BlackBerry Evolve X comes with the price tag of Rs. 34,990 and the BlackBerry Evolve has been priced at Rs. 24,990. The Evolve X will go on sale starting mid-September and the Evolve by end August. Both the smartphones will be available exclusively via Amazon India and later via offline retails as well.

As for the launch offers, the company is offering  5 percent cashback with ICICI Bank credit cards, no cost EMI from all leading banks and benefits worth Rs. 3,950 for Jio users.

BlackBerry Evolve X and Evolve specifications

Both the smartphones run on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and sports a 5.99” full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) 18:9 FullView LTPS IPS LCD display with a max brightness of 500 nits, and oleophobic coating on the top. The BlackBerry Evolve X is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. It offers 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the BlackBerry Evolve is powered by a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The internal storage of both the phones can be expanded up to 2TB via microSD card.

For photography, the BlackBerry Evolve X comes equipped with a dual rear camera setup with a combination of a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4-micron pixels and 13MP secondary sensor f/2.6 aperture, 1.0-micron pixels along with dual tone LED flash. On the other hand, the BlackBerry Evolve also has a dual rear camera setup with a combination of two 13MP sensors with f/2.0 aperture and dual tone LED flash. On the front, both of them are having a 16MP selfie shooter with  f/2.0 aperture, 78-degree FoV, Tetra Pixel technology, real-time bokeh mode, LED flash, and Face Unlock.

Both the BlackBerry Evolve X and BlackBerry Evolve are fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology and wireless charging support on Evolve X. There are Blackberry-exclusive features for power management, and other software features, such as root protection, a hardened Android fork, secure boot, the DTEK security app, a password keeper, privacy shade among others. Software features also include a dark mode, productivity tab, and the BlackBerry Hub unified messaging section. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5 LE and GPS + GLONASS, FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port with OTG support. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor with a claimed unlock time of 0.3 seconds.
