The Best Full Coverage Foundations for Oily Skin

Calling all my Oily Skin girls! If you are on a quest for the best full-coverage foundations for oily skin, fret no more. I've got you covered. (No pun intended). I've curated a list of both high end foundations and affordable drugstore foundations that will provide you with a matte finish and help keep oils at bay. Plus, these all help with enlarged pores, a common characteristic of oily skin.

Even though oily skin is sometimes the bane of my existence, there is an upside. Oily skin tends to age gracefully. I know that in 20 years (meep!) my skin will look younger than it is because it's had more moisture.

With a few exceptions, I like to apply liquid foundation with a brush versus a damp beauty blender. I prefer to use beauty blenders to apply concealer over my foundation. I have been using the affordable elf Selfie Foundation Blurring Brush I picked up from Target.

The Best Foundations for Oily Skin

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation - if there was ever a HOLY GRAIL foundation for oily skin, this is it. Seriously, I didn't believe it until I ran out of my foundation in high school and used my mom's foundation in a pinch. The coverage is buildable so you can control the level of coverage you want. I love this as I am usually dealing with post-acne hyper-pigmentation along my jawline and on my cheeks, and it covers the hyper-pigmentation around my nose as well. This foundation is so good that I sometimes don't even need to bother with using concealer under my eyes. I looooooove that it lives up to its name: stay-in-place. You will not regret this purchase!

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation - This is a great alternative to the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation if you prefer a powder formulation. This was what I wore all throughout college until I discovered Estée Lauder's Double Wear. It helped me control oil back when I was an oil slick of a disaster. Plus, since it is a powder and its container has a mirror and application pad, it easily slips into your purse for discreet touch-ups if needed.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation - Yes, MAC made it twice on this list because their products are just that awesome. This foundation is loved by all oily girls as it goes on smooth and stands up to oils. If you have a yellow undertone, you will find lots of options with this one. I was a die-hard MAC girl in college and only wore MAC for years. I still love MAC products and have many of their products on my counter.

Urban Decay 'All Nighter' Liquid Foundation - If full-coverage is what you're after, this foundation delivers. Just a little goes a long way, so be sure not to pile too much on or your skin will look cakey. This is definitely one you may want to apply with a damp beauty blender (cheaper alternative).

L'Oréal Infallible Pro Matte 24hr foundation - I thought I'd add a couple of drugstore foundations in here, not just for my readers, but also as a reminder to myself for whenever I am traveling and/or have an emergency. This foundation is legit and it gives Estée Lauder's Double Wear a run for its money. This formula holds up all day and fights oil almost as well as Double Wear. If you're on a budget, look no further.

Bare Minerals BarePro Liquid Foundation - I received this foundation in an Influenster VoxBox and was excited to try it since so many oily skin girls raved about it. However, despite applying primer, the coverage seemed a bit uneven. I could see "spots" of pigment and lots of "skin" between these flecks of pigment. However, since my skin is so oily, it eventually "melted" these "flecks" and it looked like medium-full coverage foundation. Maybe I got a bad bottle, but this is not a foundation I would purchase. I included it in this list because of the high ratings on the Sephora website. If I were to be completely honest, I had the same experience with the original powder version. Just something to keep in mind for when you're shopping.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation - Another drugstore foundation if you're on a budget, although the L'Oréal Infallible Pro will hold up better to oil breakthroughs. True to its name, it helps minimize the appearance of pores but you will probably still want to use a primer beforehand. I will say, the Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder helps to give this foundation a flawless look.

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation - One last foundation I thought I'd recommend is one that I used a few years ago when I was experimenting. This foundation gives a beautiful finish and does keep your skin looking matte for a long time. You may want to keep some oil blotting sheets on hand as I still got some oiliness toward the end of the day. However, I liked that this foundation fought against fine lines appearing. For that reason I included it in this list.

There you have it! If you'd like for me to compile a list of the best primers for oily skin, let me know in the comments below.
