German is such an expressive language that it has many variations on how to express oneself with someone you are in Love with.

Ich bin in Dich verliebt is the use of affectionate words shared between lovers.

2. Ich liebe dich

The expression Ich liebe dich is the traditional compliment in German to say ‘I love you.’ It’s the most appropriate for any serious, longer-term relationship. If the love is mutual, you may also say ‘I love you too’ so you just add auch which means also at the finish of the phrase.

3. Ich bin bis über beide Ohren verliebt

This phrase is used when you are deeply in love with someone. It means quite literally ‘’I am until over both ears in love.’’

4. Ich hab’ dich lieb

This is a colloquial phrase that you might use when talking with your partner when a phone call is about to come to an end. It may also be used for family and friends. It means ‘’Love ya’’.

5. Du bist mein Ein und Alles

When you think that your love is likely to last forever this phrase means ‘’You are my everything’’, or as would be said in English, ‘’You mean the world to me.’’

6. Ich steh’ auf dich

This phrase is commonly used in the early days of a loving relationship. However, if you feel that your commitment is growing this complement in German basically means ‘I’m into you’ which implies you are beautiful in German.

This phrase may be used on a Valentine’s card and it means ‘’ Yours is my whole heart.’’ It should normally be used in a well established relationship. It is beautiful in German slang.

8. Du gefällst mir

This isn’t an easy phrase to translate because of its meaning which is ‘You suit me’, and is primarily  used when someone finds they are attracted to someone else. It might be that you simply like their style, their eyes or the way they act or maybe it is the physical attraction which pushes you to ask this question Willst du mit mir gehen? Which means ‘‘Will you go out with me?’’

9. Ich habe dich gerne

If you find you are at the giving side just remember to use Ich habe dich gerne, which means ‘‘I care for you.’’

10. Du bist die Liebe meines Lebens

For those who are sentimental this phrase is a strong one which means quite simply  ‘‘You are the love of my life’’, and the best place to use it is on your wedding day. You could also Ich bete dich an, which means ‘‘I adore you.’’

11. Ich denke immer über dich

This means  “I think about you everyday” which is a favourite of teenagers and those individuals who have stayed for many years in a serious relationship. Older people use it from time to time as well.

12. Ich liebe dein Lächeln

This is one of German’s sexiest love expressions and may be used by just about anyone whether it’s someone they’ve had a close relationship for years, or to tell someone who they have just got to know for the first time. It means “I love your smile.”

13. Du hast wunderschöne Augen

This is one of the most common German love words. It is probably best to use it when on a date but it may also be used by those who have been dating for a while.

This means “You’ve the most beautiful eyes” which is commonly used is for describing the eyes of a woman.  It’s often used by young adults and teenagers who have been in a longer term relationship but is also used by older people as well. In spite of this, and as is common with most other romantically inclined German phrases, it may often be used by those who have been seeing one another for a while or have been married for many years.

The above expressions are all German favourites and are compliments in German which are similar to saying beautiful in German slang.
