Translation of Relevant Medical Information for Covid-19 Victims and Healthcare Providers to Beat Covid-19

When the world first got to hear about the outbreak of Covid-19 it was in a country where the majority of its speakers converse in Mandarin, or another Chinese language.  When information is written down in Mandarin, another Chinese language is the likely language to be used.

This is not a commonly spoken language outside China and Hong Kong.  This means as information unfolds about the pandemic it has to be translated into all the world’s languages so that each country can calculate whether it’s a global threat likely at some time to be transmitted through all global nations or just confined to China and borders close to the centre of the outbreak.

As the translated information filters out from China, then health authorities can put their emergency plans into action to control the virus, inform the country’s citizens and take whatever action is required to save lives. Australia attracts both permanent workers and temporary workers from all over the world of which not all will be fluent in English. This includes indigenous Australians who live in remote communities who have a better understanding in their native language.

The response to Australia’s federal government to COVID-19 is to provide translated resources on their website. This includes the following languages:

  • Vietnamese Tiếng Việt
  • Traditional Chinese 繁體中文
  • Spanish Español
  • Simplified Chinese 新型冠状病毒 (COVID-19) 您需要了解

  • Korean COVID-19 알아두어야 할 사항
  • Italian Coronavirus (COVID-19) informazioni in italiano
  • Hazaragi آزرگی
  • Greek (Ελληνικά)
  • Farsi چه چیزی باید بدانید
  • Chin Hakka 客家話
  • Arabic العربية

There are many other languages that can be translated and both interpreters and translators are available to help. If a victim of COVID-19 needs to access tele-health an interpreter can help out if required.

The Sorts of Information Available in many Languages on the Government Website are the Following:

  • symptoms of COVID-19,
  • who is most at risk of getting COVID-19,
  • what you should do if you find you have symptoms of COVID-
  • symptom checker.

The information also tells you how you should access medical assistance if you have symptoms of COVID-19.

Health Care Providers and COVID-19
