It’s a new scooters era like we never see before. We are now in an era when scooters are more than just a cheap commuting option. But also a stylish vehicle and even a “fashion statement”. Two-wheeler manufacturers are bringing new scooters with much more power. Not just with the 150 cc. Even there’s one company who build 300 cc scooters. This is happen because scooters are practical for everyday use. The operation is easy and has much needed feature – seat storage, a floorboard, even a mobile phone charger. Right now, India is the largest two-wheeler market in the world.

Here’s the list of what you will see in scooter market one next year.

1. Honda PCX 150

The new Honda PCX 150 will be a premium offer from Honda. It was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The motorcycle has been imported to India for research and development purposes. And now is expected to be launched next year. The PCX 150 will have a modern design language. There will be fairing on each side as well as the front. Honda might also equip the PCX 150 with LED sign lamp, a digital instrument console, and front and rear disc brakes.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter (HMSI) has already made it available in international markets. Powered by a 150cc, fuel injected, and single cylinder unit, producing 11 hp and 14 Nm of maximum torque. In India market, the price will be around Rs 90,000.

2. TVS 125 or 150cc

After success in the Indian two-wheeler market, TVS is now ready with a new 125 cc or 150 cc scooter launched next year. It was spied recently and looks a little bit like TVS Graphite. The one showcased at Auto Expo 2014 as a concept. Whether it comes with highly tuned 125 cc engine or a new 150 cc unit, TVS 125 or 150cc will be stronger opponent for Honda. Like what they did with TVS Jupiter that has been a worthy opponent for the Honda Activa.

3. Suzuki Swish 125

You know that Suzuki Swish has been out of our market for a long time now. But, this 2018, it seems Suzuki prepare to fight back. They showcase the 2018 version at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Suzuki Swish will have a fully digital instrument console. There is improvement too in suspension. Suzuki Swish will use telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the back. It will ride on 10 inch alloy wheels. It is confirmed that Suzuki Swish 125 will be powered with the same engine that powers the Access 125. With LED tail lamp, LED headlamps with DRL, Suzuki Swish is now sportier than its predecessor.

4. Aprilia SR 125

The late Aprilia SR 125 is expected to be priced around Rs 65000 in India. It will feature sporty styling comes from a sharp front end along with new striping. The new Aprilia SR will be powered by a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 125cc engine. It is expected to make around 8 hp and 11 Nm torque. The new Aprilia SR Motard is based on the SR 150 and will share its powertrain from Vespa’s 125cc scooter. As we know, Piaggio’s Aprilia SR 150 scooter is already on sale in India. And now, the brand will launch the 125 cc variants early February.

5. Vespa GTS 300

This is the one with 300cc engine like I told you in the beginning. The Piaggio Vespa GTS 300. Just like other Vespa scooters, the GTS 300 will have a retro styling. It is expected to be powered by a 278cc liquid-cooled and single-cylinder engine. It will have a top speed of 128 kmph comes from 21hp of power and 22 Nm of torque.

Vespa GTS 300 will be equipped with 220mm disc brakes for effective braking. The suspension itself will be performed by single hydraulic shock absorbers at front and twin shock setup at the rear.

It is likely to be priced at Rs 4 to 5 lakh, ex-showroom. It will make the Vespa GTS 300 the most expensive scooter. Not only in the Vespa range, but also in the country.

6. Hero Leap

This is the only electric hybrid scooter on the list. Hero Leap is the first electric hybrid scooter by the two wheeler manufacturer in India. It was first showcased five years ago at Auto Expo 2012. Since then, a lot of improvements are made. The upcoming scooter can be charged by plugging into a wall outlet. Hero Leap has a 3 liter fuel tank capacity. It is able to reach 100 kmph.

It will be powered by li-ion batteries and an 8 Kw electric permanent magnet AC (PMAC) traction motor. It is also embedded with a 124 cc engine. Hero Leap has futuristic design with aerodynamic styling, all-LED lights, and a Brembo two-piston disc brake.

7. Ather S340 

A Bangalore-based company, Ather Energy, that designs an electric and connected scooter called Anther S340. The first electric scooter was unveiled by the company in 2016 at a technology conference in Surge, Bangalore.

According to the company, it will be a premium product. The price will be between the Honda Activa and the Piaggio Vespa. The electric scooter will produce around 3KW or 5 KW of maximum power. All depend on different riding modes available (Economy or Sport).

Ather S340 has a peak torque of 14 Nm, with top speed of 72 kmph, and a total range of 100 km. The scooter will enter the production phase soon. It is expected to be launched in India in early 2018. 

8. Hero Dare

Hero MotoCorp gives a new offering that is a new 125 cc scooter Hero Dare. It is expected to be powered with four-stroke engine. It will make 9.11 hp and 9.5 Nm of maximum torque. The new Hero Dare will get LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) and a LED tail lamp. The manufacturer also feature a dual tone body color, mobile charging socket, telescopic forks, fully digital instrument cluster, and alloy wheels. The price is speculated with a tag of Rs 60,000.
