By the time you read this article, the launch of the new 2017 Ford EcoSport Facelift would already have taken place. The upcoming EcoSport 2017 is a more comprehensive facelift that should help the Ford compact SUV fend off the heat from the Maruti Vitara Brezza as well as the new Tata Nexon Compact SUV. The 2017 EcoSport gets refreshed interior, more features, all-new front facade and some new engine options. It will get an advantage because of Ford India’s efforts to lower the service costs. Ford EcoSport Facelift- The facelift has brought some major changes to the front-end of the SUV. The nose now looks a lot more bolder and does give the ageing SUV a very fresh identity. Additionally, the new grille brings the model in line with most of the other new-age Ford cars. The facelift does make the car look more aggressive as well as more attractive.
Tata Nexon- To be honest, the Nexon looks nothing like anything else . It has a rather sleek design that has enough spark to catch anybodies attention. It has a high ground clearance and various other bits, like a neatly sculpted wheel arches which infuse the SUV characteristics to the car. Though the Nexon does look fairly more modern than both other models in question here, it does miss out on the bold stance that the EcoSport facelift has.
Maruti Vitara Brezza- The Brezza is full of clean lines and neat surfaces. It has conventional yet pretty looks and plays the safest. Though it might have a mass appeal primarily because of its safe styling, the design doesn’t have much when it comes to flamboyance. Do not get us wrong though. The Brezza is quite a pretty handsome compact SUV. That said, it doesn’t look that special in the way the EcoSport facelift or Nexon do.

The interiors have the same story as of the exteriors. Still, lets compare the interiors here-
2017 Ford EcoSport- The design of the exterior remains the same. However, there have been several small styling changes that which make the cabin look more modern. The steering wheel and the instrument console are new. The centre console has also been revised and there is an introduction of a touchscreen infotainment unit. Also, the faux silver trim has been replaced by body-colored ones. These updates do give a fresh look to the interior design.
Tata Nexon- The Tata Nexon looks like a new-age vehicle on the inside, The same way as it does on the outside. The cabin gets some high quality plastic . It also offers a touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Android Auto. Overall speaking the design is nothing short of impressive and the cabin feels sufficiently roomy too.
Maruti Vitara Brezza- The Vitara looks the most conventional out of the three SUV’s here. The interior is no doubt more spacious. Especially towards the rear end. It is more airy than the EcoSport. That said, when it comes to aesthetics, it fails to score as highly as the EcoSport or the Nexon for that matter. But yes, when it comes to features, it stands at par with both the rivals.

The EcoSport will come with a set of new petrol engines that will be more refined and efficient. They would be likely more powerful too. The Diesel engine is likely to continue without any changes. The Tata Nexon comes with a 1.2-litre and a 1.5-litre Petrol and Diesel engines respectively. Both of these are turbocharged motors and come with a six-speed manual transmission system.
2017 Ford EcoSport– As of now, the EcoSport offers three engine options – 1.0-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre Petrol, and 1.5-litre Diesel. The facelift will be getting a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine in place of the current four-cylinder unit. This new engine imore powerful. Also it offers a higher mileage. It offers a peak power of 122 BHp and a peak torque of 150 Nm. The 1.5-litre TDCi Diesel is likely to remain the same. It’s not sure as of now if the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol would continue. The Diesel engine churns out 100 BHP, while the new Petrol engine pups out 120 BHP of power.
Tata Nexon– The Nexon comes with an option of a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo Diesel engine. Both these engines do offer 108 BHP and come with a six-speed manual transmission system. The engines are quite high on mileage and refinement. The engines are quite impressive.
Maruti Vitara Brezza– The Vitara Brezza is the only car here that just offers one engine option i.e the 1.3-litre Turbo Diesel. This is the same Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet engine that powers at least half of all the Diesel cars in the same price range. While the engine does offer a good mix of performance as well as mileage & refinement, it simply can not match the outright power of the Nexon or the EcoSport. Additionally because of no petrol engine on offer, the Brezza loses out quite easily in this section of the comparison.

2017 Ford EcoSport- Ford has not yet revealed the mileage of the new 1.5-litre Dragon engine for the EcoSport. However, it is estimated that it will offer around 17 KMPL. The Diesel engine offers a superb ARAI-tested 20 KMPL of mileage.
Tata Nexon- The Nexon can boast of an ARAI-certified mileage of 17 KMPL for the Petrol and 21.5 KMPL for the Diesel model. The figures are decent for the powerful engines that this compact SUV comes with but are far from the rivals.
Maruti Vitara Brezza- The Vitara Brezza is a clear winner here with an ARAI-tested fuel mileage of 24 KMPL.

Even though the price list of the EcoSport facelift and Tata Nexon aren’t available at the moment, we do have a fair idea of what’s coming our way. You will see that there is no clear winner in this section.
2017 Ford EcoSport Facelift-As of now, prices of the EcoSport start at Rs 7.1 lakh and go all the way to Rs 10.71 Lakh. The facelift will cost a bit more because it will bring in many new features, a new engine, and fresher styling.
Tata Nexon- The prices of the Nexon start at Rs 5.85 lakh and go all the way to Rs 9.45 lakh. This means the new compact SUV from Tata Motors is priced very aggressively. At this price, the nexon is a great value for money proposition.
Maruti Vitara Brezza- As of now the Brezza is the most popular compact SUV . The base price is Rs 7.24 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 9.91 lakh mark. The Brezza would have to be ready to face some heat from the arrival of the new EcoSport and the Nexon. That said, Maruti Suzuki always makes it a point to surprise everyone and therefore, new variants with competitive price tags is something which is very possible.

Exterior- The Nexon looks fresh and very different from all the vehicles on sale. It looks very modern and impresses with its coupe-like silhoutte as well as sleek looks. However, it does miss out on the brawny, in-your-face styling that is characteristic with the true-blue SUVs. The new EcoSport looks a lot bolder now and much more modern. It also offers a right mix of aggression and freshness. The Vitara Brezza has the most conventional looks. Even though this might help it get a wider appeal, it is the new EcoSport that is a winner here with it’s aggressive and sufficiently modern look.
Interior- The story is the same when it comes to the interiors . The Nexon gives a very premium feel in it’s cabin. However, it is the new Ecosport’s interior that looks as if it belongs to a conventional SUV. The interiors of the Brezza’s are all about clean lines and neat surfaces. Considering the interiors of all the three cars the Nexon, which offers a good mix of attractive design and space along with a long list of features comes as a winner here.
Specifications- EcoSport is again the winner here. It does offer the most number of choices for the engine, followed by the Nexon. The Vitara comes with just the Diesel engine option and a lack of petrol engine option is something which lets it down.
Mileage- With an ARAI-tested mileage of 24 KMPL, the Brezza is the clear winner here. The Brezza’s Diesel engine offers a far better mileage than what the Diesel models of the EcoSport & Nexon.
Price- Prices are of new EcoSport are yet to be revealed. However we are pretty sure that they won’t be too much different from the prices of the current model. The Nexon does enjoy a huge price advantage at the moment. It will be very interesting to find out if Ford also decides to price the new EcoSport in a similar way.
