PHP | strncmp() Function



Hello folks! welcome back to a new edition of our tutorial on PHP. In this tutorial guide, we are going to be studying about the PHP strncmp() Function.

The built-in php strncmp() function is used to compare first n character. This function is similar to the PHP strcmp(), except that strcmp() function does not have the length parameter.

Note: This PHP function is binary-safe and case-sensitive.

syntax

Following below is the syntax to use this function -

int strncmp ( string $str1 , string $str2 , int $len )

Parameter Details

It specifies first string to search

string2

It specifies second string to search

3

length

It specifies number of characters from each string to be used in the comparison


Return Value

This PHP function returns less 0 if string1 is greater than string2, and 0 if they are equal.

Example

Try out the example below -

php
echo strncmp
("input","input",6);
echo
"
"
;

echo strncmp
("input","iMPut",6);
?>

Output

When the above code is executed, it will produce the following result -

0
8448
