Lights Off This Saturday For Earth Hour 2019

Like every year, countries around the world will stick to their commitment to the planet and join the Earth Hour 2019 global event where everyone will turn off lights on Saturday, March 30 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (local time).

The Earth Hour was initiated by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Sydney in 2007 to spread the simple message of importance of switching off all the “non-essential” lights. Since then, it became a global event involving millions of people from around the world – and 2018 proved to be record-breaking as 10 million people from 188 countries turned their lights off on a pre-decided day in the last week of March; and this year, the day happens to be March 30, 2019 – Saturday.

To participate in the Earth Hour 2019 event themed as ‘Reduce, Reuse, Change the Way We Live’, all you have to do is switch off the lights for an hour on forthcoming Saturday. The event will not only spread awareness for energy conservation, but also saves thousands of watts of total energy with the worldwide “light out”, and the #Connect2Earth social media campaign will only add to the massiveness of the event. Don’t miss out to be the one of the millions from all over the world, connected by a simple flick of switch and a message for the world.

The reason for picking end days of March to observe the day is to ensure the greatest visual impact because it is the time of Spring and Autumn equinoxes. Which means, the time 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM is almost sunset for everyone in both the northern and southern hemisphere. Hence, the lights out will get the grandest effects – visible even from the space. And global landmarks including Eiffel Tower to Sydney Opera House and the Golden Gate to Birmingham Palace, from the Statue of Liberty to the Taj Mahal – all will go dark for the global cause. So take a moment, experience the hour of darkness with the world for the sake of our only home that Earth is.
