By sweeping away 14 of 16 mayoral seats (and still counting) in Uttar Pradesh civic polls, BJP is approaching towards a massive victory – even in the Gandhi Family Bastion of Amethi.

Campaigns led by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seems to have worked in the state of Uttar Pradesh as the saffron party has already secured majority of mayoral seats in the civic polls. On this, Yogi attributed the result to be vision of PM Narendra Modi and bluntly said that these results will prove to be an eye-opener for all those who think BJP will lose Gujarat Assembly elections. As of now, BJP is leading seats in Lucknow, Allahabad, Amethi, Aligarh, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Moradabad municipal corporations whereas the second choice in the state was BSP with lead in Jhansi and Agra municipal corporations.

The elections which were conducted in three phases on November 22, 26 and 29 witnessed about 52% voters which counts up to 3.36 crore voters. With victory nearing them, Yogi said that rival Congress was humbled even in the Gandhi family bastion of Amethi and the BJP will now aim for hundred per cent success in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. While BJP might be moving towards victory, there is a major setback – the BJP lost a seat in Yogi’s very own bastion Gorakhpur against a lone Muslim candidate! BJP’s Maya Tripathi lost ward number 68 to an independent Muslim candidate, Nadira Khatoon. The famous Gorakhpur Temple, of which Yogi is the Mahant aka head, is situated in the same ward.

This is a major setback for Yogi government that too in Yogi’s very own backyard – literally. But soon, BJP won Congress bastion at Amethi. Votes are still being counted in 75 Uttar Pradesh districts after a three-phase election to 652 urban local bodies took place last month. The final results are yet to be declared.
