One of India’s top Chess players and a five-times world champion – Vishwanath Anand is back in the game at World Cup 2017, with his epic moves and has already started off with a clinical victory in his opener game against Malaysian player Li Tian Yeoh.

The biggest chest festival of the year across entire world began on Sunday with 128-player knockout and Indians had a lot to cheer as 7 Indian players qualified for the tournament. But all eyes were on India’s ace player – Vishwanath Anand, who is a World Champion for five times and has also won the World Cups all three times he played earlier. A game against young Malaysian player Li Tian Yeoh was certainly an easy start for the elite player. Anand is an epic player and with is confidence and strategy, he will now be playing against GM Varuzhan Akobian in the second round.

However, the opening rounds didn’t prove to be all victorious to all Indian players as our second best player – P. Harikrishna lost the first game against Yuri Vidal Gonzales of Cuba. But we have high hopes from Anand as he is known for winning the games he takes part in. An Alapin opening by the young Malaysian opponent didn’t bother Anand much and he caught up back soon. Victory in the World Cup is Anand’s last chance to qualify his place in the next World Championship.

This is first time in over a decade that Anand has not been directly qualified to take part in the World Championships. But winning at the World Cups is not going to be as easy for Anand because soon, the games against sub-elite players will end and he will face harsh throttles like the English chess player GM Michael Adams and American chess player – Hikaru Nakamura. Let’s see how those moves work for Anand and see if he is able to check-mate the American chess player.
