” Meh, Shit happens ” – the curious case of Stoicism

It was a fine day in Cyprus, a few thousand years ago and a young man named Zeno has just found out that his entire trade shipment has been lost at sea. This act of God would have made most of us tear our clothes and run to the corner of our house shrivel up and cry. After going through the five stages of grief we would normally get back to our life which would then be punctuated with certain euphoric highs and desperate lows.

But Zeno was different, after going through the 5 stages of grief, he started learning about Socrates, mostly because he had nothing much to do and came up with the concept of Stoicism or in other words the ability to say “Meh, It happens” whatever be the event happenings around us.

In this short video pulled from youtube, you can hear from Massimo Pigliucci about the philosophy of Stoicism and how it comes to affect us all.
