Love! The beauty of feeling, witnessing, sharing it, is REMARKABLE. Nearly 3500 guests and 2Billion viewers worldwide witnessed today’s Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, while others streamed the replays of the ceremony beginning at Windsor Palace. With such a massive audience, let’s look at what can be learned from today’s royal wedding…
- Respect for and Revision of Tradition
A beautiful witness of American and British traditions upheld and evolved were included in the royal wedding. Carriage rides, family presence and support, opera opening, and the formal suiting aligned with the tradition of royal ceremonies.
Eternal Source of Life Divine performed by the opera as the Dutchess entered the chapel brought heavy yet positive emotion. Yet, the royal couple modernized other traditions making them their own, as perhaps opening doors for further adoption via musicals by Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir concluding the musical accents during these moments which brought many to tears.
Bridesmaids and Paige boys were not solely from the royal side, as customarily done. The Dutchess integrated her family/friends into these roles bringing a more united involvement in the ceremony. The royal wedding included three ceremonies of differing audience sizes and guests lists. The Dutchess walked the nave alone and then met Prince Charles who accompanied her to her husband. A spin on both American and British tradition with respect to the mantra of “being given away”, vice entering into a wedding as the feminist the Dutchess is, while still honoring the family tradition of an accompanied walk.
The respect for both American and British tradition and the melding of the two in a modernized fashion was seen in every moment aired. With guests from both the groom and bride sitting alongside one another (as opposed to classifying seating by stature) the wedding party showed respect for a progressive inclusion. Hosted in a historic chapel and decorated with beautiful foliage gave the venue a very modern feel, bringing together the old and the new.
- Embracing Diversity
Of the nearly 3500 guests and 2Billion spectators, there was the perfect blend of cultural origin – notably UK and American. Guests such as Elton John, Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian, David and Victoria Beckham, Idris Elba and fiancée Sabrina Dhowre joined the audience. The Dutchess longstanding “Suits” costar Patrick J. Adams and his wife Torian Bellisario, Lead actres Gina Torres, Gabriel Macht and a list of other great stars all were present during this wonderfully historic ceremony.
Nearly 1200 members of the public from every corner of the United Kingdom were nominated to attend by nine regional Lord Lieutenant offices. The royal couple asked that people be chosen from a broad range of backgrounds and ages, including people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities.
People from U.K and America lined up for 2miles outside the venue to catch glimpses of the couple. News airways in multiple countries covered the ceremony from start to finish.
- Class and Fashion
Fascinators and accented and wide brimmed hats (many by notarized designer Phillip Treacy), grace, and sophistication were embodied by all of the ceremony attendees. As you can see form the stunning guests below, no commentary needed:
- Love
The Royal Wedding was historical, memorable, and beautiful. A wonderful celebration of love, honor, respect, and unity of two nations by two young people. This historical moment is one more sign that we can all coexist despite our differences and find ways to live amongst eachother happily, respectful and with love for ourselves and mankind. We can come together and prosper.
The Dutchess’ US pastor, Michael Curry flooded the royal wedding with a powerful sermon. His passionate oratory about the importance of love resonated with the audience, including Britons who are used to a far more traditional royal ceremony. A fresh start with an open heart.
