Buhari Is Not A Thief, Unlike Other Past Leaders – Adams Oshiomhole

Former Governor of Edo State and front runner of the All Progressives Congress national chairmanship, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said his party would win the next year’s presidential election because President Muhammadu Buhari was not a thief.

Oshiomhole, who stated this yesterday while declaring his intention in Abuja to contest for the national chairmanship of APC, said the credentials of Buhari would be juxtaposed with other presidents when the time comes. Buhari has declared his interest to seek for a re-election amidst strong opposition from opposition political parties.

But addressing supporters yesterday, Oshiomhole said when time comes, the the opposition would be silenced. said: “I want to assure Nigerians that I believe with a new leadership of the APC and with our president whom I believe is ever determined, no matter what anybody wants to say; I want to take that again no matter what anybody wants to say there will be time to engage in all of those contestations as we approach 2019, the electioneering campaign and those who wish to contest on various party platforms come to the open, we will know the players, we will know their coach, we will be able to engage them.

“Until then, so that I don’t change headlines, there is only one thing I want to say here and now- that the worst critic of the president of Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, will agree that the President is not a thief. President Buhari is not a thief.

That, for me, is the starting point and we will challenge others. “All the former, former, who on the basis of verifiable evidences that we can see, that can be so described without fear of contradiction; that for us is a starting point as we move on to engage those who wish to engage us.
“I am confident that Nigerians are ready to progress and our party is ready to mend where we have made mistakes and re-energise and confront the problems that confront our country and bearing in mind that the entire black world looks unto us.

We have what it takes to provide that leadership that Africa will be proud of and we shall be a reference point.” The former governor, who paid recognition to many party leaders, said he was trained to interrogate management policy and would do so if elected as APC national chairman.

He also gave account of how he succeeded as governor of Edo State, as he said: “When I was the governor of Edo state, I did have cause to say to my brothers and sisters in the House of Assembly that although we are separate arms of one government and the government must have one focus, one heading and it is when we cooperate and collaborate that we can celebrate democracy better.

“I think that the indivisible minimum responsibility of the leadership of a political party and of the All Progressives Congress, if I am privileged to become chairman, would be to help the executive and the legislature to fight common ground to win together.

“Let me say that I think with all sense of modesty that I am well prepared for this kind of role. I was employed as a factory hand, under a management regime in which I was called or I was compelled to sign company’s rules and regulations in which I was obliged almost under duress to say that I shall obey all the rules even without knowing what all those rules are. “I was compelled to sign my application as ‘your obedient servant’.

But once I signed, I will organise. My first task was to question the entire concept of managerial or management prerogative and to insist that whereas, we recognise the authority of the employer, that authority can be exercised, bearing in mind that it is being exercised over human beings who have no just constitutional rights made by men but inalienable rights made by God.

Among the party members who attended the declaration were: Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Phillip Shuaibu; Edo State APC Chairman, Anslem Ojezia; National Vice Chairman, South South of the APC, Hilliard Eta; former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timiprieye Silva; Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Kabiru Adjoto; Deputy Whip of the Senate, Senator Francis Alimikhena, among others.
