Prejudice in us all

Among many other shortcomings that I have , one of them is mild Prejudice. The images that are once formed in my mind have the tenacity to bias my judgement.

I guess we all are prone to biasment at some point of our life.

Because prejudice is not a new fad , it has come a long way since the making of civilisation. It is instilled in us at quite a tender age which leaves a deep impression on our minds.

Let’s take a example – Assume that you are going to a birthday party of a five year old girl.Of course, you gotta take a present with you.You go to a shop to get one.You ask the shopkeeper for a present suitable for a five year old girl.He will probably show you a doll , a kitchen set , sparkling bangles, etc. You will be sure to buy one thing of these likes.Prejudice , sir.The girl could be interested in racing cars or play swords or Football or something. But would you think of this?

See, our life is riddled with such examples. If on TV , you see a South Indian character Speak , why does he always speak in broken English?

A Punjabi character would be shown super excited in everything.

A guy from north-east will never speak normally. A heroine would mostly be fairskinned , shorter than the hero and stand on the sides in an action scene. If I say nurse , the first image that come to your mind will be of an woman. What if I say, a football player ?

This was just a drop of the ocean,my friends.

Our minds are somewhat customised to these images. These timeless prejudices make us feel safe in an ever changing world. But You should not attach any particular trait to a group of people based on your own opinion.

I try to refrain from that too.Though honestly it is a sore attempt sometimes. It is almost like trying to forget the alphabet.

But nevertheless we should strive for fairness in life as small mindedness hampers the development of a person.

Next time when you mimic your Bengali friend for fun , think better.

Bye for now.
