Simon Porte Jacquemus met film director Gordon Von Steiner on the set of a Vogue collections shoot. and the designer and the director hit it off and knew almost at once that they wanted to work together on a project. They ended up working on fashion film 'La Bomba' which celebrated Jacquemus' SS18 collection.
They ended up in Tenerife on the Canary Islands, directing a short fashion film starring the collection.

Made in collaboration with the Woolmark Company, the film, also titled La Bomba, was shot in a single sequence (a first for Von Steiner) and features a cast of dancers, actors, models, acrobats, and Jacquemus’s young cousin Jean dancing under the sun to sultry salsa music.
According to Jacquemus, however, the summer weather wasn’t a sure bet at first. “It rained all day when we first got to set. I was so nervous because this was my first really big production and I was so stressed. The idea was really about the feeling of being at the beach all day and then coming back to this party at night. I loved this Spring collection so much and I wanted to make a beautiful memory of it.”
Von Steiner felt the same way about the clothes and wanted the film to reflect, as he says,
Simon’s mother, her style, the summer, being in love, being a woman, and having all eyes on you—it’s all a little eccentric, too, and this collection makes a statement. The project felt uniquely special. Simon and I were passing ideas back and forth and it was all very free-flowing. I would think of something and Simon would twist it and make it better. It was a true collaboration.
Jacquemus’s draped backless dresses, polka-dot wrap skirts, and fringe details certainly called a salsa dancing party to mind on the runway, and in his new video with Von Steiner, the mood really comes to life.
