Difference Between One Way and Two Way Slab

In the reinforced Concrete construction the one way and two-way Slab structures are the most widely employed floor design. Such slabs are built to provide smooth, typically horizontal surfaces in building walls, roofs, or other forms of structures. There are some basic differences between those two slab schemes. The key differences between the slab system of one way and the slab system of two ways are described below.

One Way SlabTwo Way Slab
For one aspect, the ratio of the longer span panel (L) to the shorter span panel (B) is equal to or greater than 2. So, L / B ≥ 2.For two-way concrete, the ratio of the longer span (L) to the shorter span (B) is less than 2. As such, L / B
The deflected form of a single-way slab is cylindrical.The deflected form of the two-way slab is dish-shaped.
One way slab has structural strength in the shortest possible path.Two-way slab provides structural strength in the shortest path.
One form concrete bends or deflects in a path perpendicular to the supporting sides.Two-way concrete bent or redirect in both ways.
Key reinforcing is given for one way slabs in only one direction.Key reinforcement is given for two-way slabs in both directions.
The slab panel is balanced on two opposite sides in a short one-way slab path.The concrete plate is protected on four sides of the two-way slab.
