Community Action Saved Their Fundraiser by Going Digital

Community Action addresses the needs of people experiencing poverty in Washington County, Oregon.

They were on target for holding their annual gala when the coronavirus pandemic hit and the governor issued stay-at-home orders. Undaunted, the organization switched gears and decided to hold the event online.

By communicating early and often with supporters and sponsors alike, Community Action was able to bring everyone along to the new format. Working with their partner, Swaim Strategies, they were able to put together a broadcast on Vimeo with a livestream to YouTube. Using pre-recorded video messages, Community Action effectively conveyed the impact they have on the communities they serve. They displayed a live fundraising “thermometer” during the appeal to keep the energy going. Using Greater Giving’s online tools, Community Action was able to keep the silent auction and fund-a-need open for two additional days.

With a spirit of adaptability and intentional planning, Community Action was able to turn around a challenging situation and make the best of it. They reduced their expenses by holding the Fundraiser online and their revenue came close to their live auction goal. In the end, they were thrilled with the outcome.
