Zara’s foundation & face routine for dry/combination skin.

Makeup is such a personal thing.  When it comes to laying down the basics we can all play and figure out what works best for us!  Zara’s latest routine leaves her feelin’ snatched, so with that let’s let her walk us through her routine…

It has, however, been playing ball recently with my bedtime routine of oil bathing, which I can always do a post on sometime if you’re totes interested, jus’ let a gurl know wink wiiiiink.

So anyways, I always start with brows first.  Always.  Always.  I begin with Obsession cosmetics brow pomade in medium brown – side note I’ll be doing a brow routine with Stacey sometime soon, so stay tuned fo’ dat!

Once I’ve got a decent flow to these geezers, It’s time for me to prep my first base.  I used to use primers, however, I found they were insanely taxing on my mush and broke me out often.  I’d also witness patches crusting up all in this shizz with primers and I just couldn’t deal.  Bletch.  I currently enjoy using the Balance Active Formula snake venom wrinkle freeze serum, shameless plug, but we reviewed this earlier this year here.  And as I’m now in my 30’s my fine lines are creeping in like crawlers to a base camp blasting party rock anthem (sorry the husband is watching The Walking Dead, Inspo fo’sho’) this little guy though helps tone them down.

So while that sets and fixes and preps I get on with carving the brows.  Most people favour concealer here, however the halo look above my brows just doesn’t suit me, so instead I go in with my current foundations and carve with them.  On this look I’m using the CYO long lasting Foundation in shade 102 mixed with the B beauty flawless silk foundation in shade N1.

Once lined, I bounce the foundation surrounding into my skin so that I’m not left with any harsh lines when I lay my next foundation layer down.  I also pat any excess onto my lids – It’s all about dem bases babyyyyy…

Then I prep my lids, I’m currently loving the Makeup Revolution conceal and define concealer in shade C1.  It’s amazing pigmentation really helps create my perfect eye base, it’s a 2 in 1 situ, a win-win!

It’s literally a case of plopping on with the wand and blending with beauty blender until the base is even, however, I do not set my bases.  Leaving them wet provides a tackiness that helps the eyeshadow pigmentation pop that little bit more.  Groovy.  At this point I’ve gone ahead and done my eyes with the Huda Beauty rose gold palette (I’ve just seen that this guy has been remastered… Dang it looks pretty)

Once I was happy with the upper eyes, it was time to crack on with the groundwork again.  Tapping back in with the CYO and B Beauty foundations, I mix them together using the tip of my beauty blender and dot all over my face, including ears and neck!

I then spread this all over my face with a brush, I’m slummy, it’s not a foundation brush but this one works for me.  This part enables me to push the foundation into any crevices (blech what a word) like my nose and smile lines.  They’re rather deep, so a beauty blender doesn’t do a good enough job of pushing the foundation where I need it to be so using this beforehand enables me to gain a real even coverage.

And then, we dance.  At this point, I also make sure to bounce around my hairline, neck, jaw and ears so that any evident lines are somewhat diminished (hopefully gone, but I’m no miracle worker) Tide marks are really harsh against my pale skin, the more I blend in, the better.

And now we’re back in with the makeup revolution concealer, and ‘ark at me dotting it on like some influencer yo’! FYI I usually just slather it on, and then blennnnnnnd until my shameful under eyes are covered and you’ll be all ‘how does she look like she’s had 8 hours sleep when her toddler only allows her 2?’

To set, I use Maybelline‘s studio master fix setting perfecting powder, it’s one of the most finely milled, budget-friendly powders I’ve used to date and a little goes a long way I simply dip my brush into the powder and tap off the excessTo set my undereye, I look straight up and pat the brush across where I’ve concealed, ta-da!

To finesse the base, I always contour first, and although my skin is dry I’ve always found powders past this point work best on top of my foundation.  To snatch and create an illusion of cheekbones (for I am the British equivalent of Hey Arnold! Move it football head!) I go in with the Essence shape your face contouring palette and use this under my jaw, along my forehead and of course, to create the cheekbones I am never to be blessed with.  Pray for me guys…

To blend and warm the contour I’ve laid down, I then go in with the Beautifully Bare natural glow face palette by E.L.F. cosmetics. Using the two deeper shades in swirly buffing motions, I go along everywhere that I came, saw and contoured on.  I then lightly bronze a little from my jaw, down towards the neck to avoid a harsh line under my noggin’, and then use the deeper of the two bronzer shades to lightly snatch my nose.  Bangin’.

After that’s been sorted, I add a pop of flush with the Essence cosmetics mosaic blush in shade ‘The Berry Connection’ to warm this vampire couture I once began with.  Now we’re cookin’ with gas *insert awkward smiley face here for I do not want the makeup to crack*

Once I’ve popped my lips on and added mascara, to make sure my face avoids becoming a slip and slide later, I spritz liberally with the B. Pro makeup setting spray from Superdrug.  Whilst it smells legit like kids poster paints, it does its job amazingly well.  And it’s cheap… and cruelty-free!

And just like that, we got it done.  Issa lewk baybee.  Now its time for you to grab your phone and feel yaself, werk them snapchat filters.  Legit go full on Kylie Jenner, cuz boo? this base is flawhhhless.

Well, for now… Just don’t let your kids attack it like I do.
