The Cadillac Company had earlier admitted that it was far behind its rivals, and this prompted the carmaker to hire Johan De Nysschen to devise its next-gen 2018 Cadillac XT4.
We spotted the next-gen Cadillac XT4 for the first time in February on a testing session in Southern Europe. The tests were carried out under hot weather conditions on public roads. This development made us believe that the upcoming Model will be making a global debut in the first phase of the next year. Its key rivals include the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
2018 Cadillac XT4 – Shares the same D2XX platform with the Chevy Equinox
The incoming 2018 Cadillac XT4 shares the same D2XX platform with the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain. It will not only mirror these products from General Motors, but we expect that this basic structure will make it possible to shed a significant amount of weight. Cadillac has revealed plans to kick off the XT4 model with a lightweight and front-drive-based architecture.
Also, the carmaker is planning to use an evolved version of its original “Art & Science” design ethos. This new SUV will borrow a host of design motifs from other models like the CTS, along with the recently tossed XT5.
Although this test car is heavily camouflaged, we can quickly notice that it is a shrunken version of the XT5. Its massive front grille gets edged by pointed headlamps, which comprise new LED strips that flow toward the bumper.
We can also see a lateral wedge profile featuring a three window design and two rising character lines. Our spy images show that a compressed rear window and vertical LED tail lamps complete the package. Since the XT4 is meant for urban areas, it lacks adequate ground clearance.
Interior Features
The new-gen XT4 carries a V-shaped center console and comes as standard with a well tucked-in screen and optional with a bigger screen with touch-based functions. The CUE infotainment system is optional and gets fortified with a larger screen. This model isn’t as spacious as its XT5 sibling. Instead, it brings the same head and legroom as the ATS.
As for the interior features, we expect the Cadillac XT4 to convey a high-end luxury. The entry-level model gets cloth seats as standard.
Standard equipment will probably comprise things like the Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G hotspot. Optional features will likely include heated and cooled seats, a rear-camera mirror, and also a rear-seat entertainment.
2018 Cadillac XT4 – Engine and Gearbox
We don’t know yet what engine is going to be used on the 2018 Cadillac XT4. However, behind the front fascia of the test car, we can see something that looks like an intercooler. That means, there’s the likelihood of a turbocharged engine—a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit featured in the ATS is a likely bet.
Also, it will be hooked to either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The total output is expected to be slightly lower in the XT4, though. And we’ve had reports indicating that Caddy is planning to mate it to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
2018 Cadillac XT4 – MSRP and Release Date
The 2018 Cadillac XT4 is priced somewhere in the region of low-to-mid-$30,000 in line with its rivals. Our insiders told us to expect this newest Cadillac crossover in the mid-2018. Stay tuned here for additional feeds.
