VIRAL KIDS: HOMELESS GIRL SCOUTS SELL MORE THAN 32,000 BOXES OF COOKIES

The Girl Scouts’ Cookie-selling season is coming to a close and one group is earning special notoriety. A New York City-based Troop, called Troop 6000, managed to sell more than 32,000 boxes of the celebrated Girl Scout cookies, which amounted to thousands in revenue earned.

Perhaps the thing that made Troop 6000 so incredible was the fact that 300 of the girls who sold cookies were living in homeless shelters while advocating for the cause. “I’m so excited that I got a chance to sell cookies, just like any other Girl Scout,” Sanaa, a 10-year-old member of the troop, tells media. “Next year we are going to reach a higher goal.”

Troop 6000 not only sold an abundance of cookies this season, but the group also garnered upwards of $15,000 in donations from those impressed by their incredible hard work. “They felt this support—they felt someone is on their side,” Meridith Maskara, CEO of Girl Scouts Greater New York, shares with media. “When a shelter opens in a neighborhood, they are not always told that,” she added.

The monies raised by the girls will go towards camping trips as well as other programs that contribute to the greater good. Learn more about Troop 6000 and more Girl Scouts groups in NYC shelters here.
