The person in the photo above is Patricia Cummings. She is presently a teacher employed by the New York City Department of Education making nearly $70,000 per year. This teacher, Patricia Cummings, decided to teach kids in her middle school classroom a lesson about slavery. You aren’t going to like the rest.
So apparently, courses about child development deem it okay for teachers to single out students and step on their backs (sarcasm intended). Patricia certainly used this method when teaching a lesson about slavery in America a few weeks back. The teacher allegedly singled out three African American students and had them lay face down on the floor. She then told them that such was how slavery was during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. One of the girls lying on the floor reportedly made a snarky comment, which was when Cummings step on the child’s back.
“She picked three of the black kids,” an eyewitness tells New York Daily News. “She said, ‘You see how it was to be a slave?’ She said, ‘How does it feel?’” What exactly was Cummings trying to teach the kids besides the white supremacist view that African Americans are beneath their white counterparts?
So anyway, Patricia Cummings has been reassigned to a position in which she does not interact with children until a thorough investigation has been completed. “While the investigation has not been completed, these are deeply disturbing allegations, and the alleged behavior has no place in our schools or in society,” Education Department Spokeswoman Toya Holness says.
Does anyone else wonder if anything will actually be done? Sad.
