Prof. Folusho Lesi, Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (UNILAG), according to Punch News, has said that endowment facilities from institution’s alumni is important in building word-class university.

He made this known at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday to initiate the UNILAG College of Medicine Alumni High Table Fundraising Dinner which will hold on the 2nd of February 2019.
Lesi said the government alone could not fund education, hence the need for alumni to come together to help the institutions.

According to Lesi, the objective of the dinner was to re-instate a tradition of the college which was in line with the traditions of Ivy League universities across the world.

“There is a tradition where at a particular time of the year, we celebrate one another. Other Ivy League universities in the world have similar endowment; they call them Springboard, Oxford and Cambridge ball and all that.

“Secondly, the government has done its best but if we are going to be that cutting-edge institution, we need to endow facilities, research. There are many people out there suffering from one ailment or the other; the solution can be found in good research and development that cut across facilities,” he stated.
Lesi noted that the alumni who form a key stakeholder in any institution must come together and endow for the next generation.
