ADAM GROOMING ATELIER

This London based grooming Atelier,Adam, transports you to another timeline. For me, it was when I was 15 years old and my Hairdressing teacher at college, announced to us all, that we'd have to partake in various named salons as junior hairdressers for a total of 50 days. This requirement gave me the opportunity to visit quite a few hairdressing salons and led me down an exciting and successful path, allowing me the pleasure to base my opinion on this design now, through previous experience.
Let’s face it, there are hundreds and thousands of hairdressing salons in almost every popular country we know and live in, but there are very few that manage to stand out and make a statement to the world. The multitudinous stores all around us have made their reputation so very predictable to local citizens, that there is a similar design and aesthetic approach of elegance and luxury throughout most, - since without doubt, we all want our visit to our favourite salons to be one of utter pampering and indulgence -, that we all treat, both our frequent and occasional visits, with nothing more than uninspiring expectancies. I may not have travelled far in search of a more eye-catching hair salon, but I can still personally advocate this theory, as a former hairdressing student, a present part-time hairdressing hobbyist and as an ongoing, curious customer of the future; our trusted hairstyling experts thankfully offer us more than enough glamourous services through their common outlets, but what our world needs now in my opinion, is a creative breakthrough in this infamous industry that so many of us aspire in, just like theADAMgrooming atelier, which has managed to accomplish this effortlessly.
The architects of ADAM,Eray Carbajo, have thought outside the box and captivated us all with their touch of unaccustomed essence and glamour. This grooming atelier, with its unique philosophy, has made its first ever appearance at Canary Wharf Station in London and has already made an outstanding advancement.
First impressions of the design concept suggest a connection between the art of the service of hairdressing in itself and the creative approach between the forms used. Hexagonal, sharp edged structures throughout, embrace the crisp cut of a pair of scissors and its precise trim of one’s hair.
Personal feelings of this design indicate that the art of hairstyling was purposefully implemented into the available space by the designers, to create an innovative and influential interior layout. Influential to who? To everyone. To men. To visitors and passer-by’s, to designers and writers like myself, down to the staff that work there every single day. Whoever is found in the midst of this cosy, yet luxurious little spot, is affected by the warm tones and natural materials, the cutting-edge features and historically inspired formations.
There’s another inspirational insight this barber’s shop offers and that’s clearly applied and taken into consideration for the most common of visitors of this little establishment; the men.
The interior has a generally rustic climate, with the use of timber slabs and flooring, in dark, husky tones, even the logo and name of the firm calls out its masculine identity. This concept transports you again to another time, by being inspired from Turkish baths with the use of flawless marble (marmara) and raw chestnut elements which not only shape the space, but form cubicle-like divisions for each client, giving them a sense of privacy and exclusive, undivided attention from their barber, whilst still allowing for the impression of openness through the consistent and reoccurring slabs of wood that form these divisions.
Like mentioned before, the branding of this new establishment, which was also designed byEray Carbajo, was well thought out and put into development with the idea of ‘man’ now, and ‘man’ then, providing an easily distinguished name for itself. The name 'Adam' from Adam and Eve, which is believed to be the first man to have ever lived on earth, the very first human creation, is met half way with today’s modern day man through historical interpretations and contemporary design finishes.
To further modernise and incorporate a more rugged atmosphere for the true gentlemen of the atelier and their lifestyles, the team at Eray Carbajo, have pulled this interior together with even more historical roots reinforced, such as the ancient Roman barbering traditions, the acknowledged English etiquette and the old-world craftsmanship.
The all-inclusive atelier, offers impressive services, from a clean shave, a hot towel press, to a beard trim and even a head-to-neck massage, all within the rustic but luxurious use of big, bulky seats, individual basins, ceiling high windows and grand mirrors that reflect and carry the dim, artificial lighting throughout the room. They even use their own ADAM products which are completely exclusive. What more could you ask for?
To summarise all that, ADAM is a clear embodiment of the revival of all men to this day and is standing proud in its bespoke outlook against all its competitors.
