DION, GREECE

Located in the shadows of Mt, Olympus, the once sacred place for the worship of the Olympian God, Zeus and his daughters, the Muses, is now a ruin, consumed by nature. Every corner and walkway brims with vegetation, making the atmosphere of the journey peaceful yet exotic.
This landmark is known for many historically significant events, such as the formation of the reigns of Alexander the Great and the stage where the Olympian games of Dion took place. The outstretched, archaeological park takes you back centuries, leaving you in disbelief from how the excavated statues of different Gods and Goddesses, remain in their unearthed state, emitting onto us their stories in which we depict in our own demeanour.
Amongst the crumbling walls of the city of Dion, large casts of warrior’s shields and armor, mark their presence and honour to this country, giving its audience a sorrowed reminder of this.
With each step, a statue, a monument, a hidden stone path, appears within towering trees, scattered springs and even emerging from the river that flows expressively along your route. The beautiful wildlife adds a unique perspective to the sanctuary, formulating a deeper appreciation for what is there which is almost swallowed to extinction by life’s most natural recognition.
And as you walk along the ruins, the heat blazing, the river ice cold against your feet, the sound of crickets blaring and the constant passing of beautiful creatures, turtles, dragonflies and lizards, you stop to take a moment and really acknowledge the ambience in comparison to yourself and how extraordinary it is to be in the midst of it all.
