Srinivasan wanted to replace Dhoni with the Nawab of Najafgarh Virender Sehwag in the team. Before the auction in 2008, Srinivasan had asked me,

‘Who are you going to pick?’ So in the answer, I took the name of Dhoni. After this, he asked, ‘Why not Virender Sehwag?’

Replying to this, I said,

“The crowd will not cheer Sehwag as they will cheer for Dhoni. Apart from that Dhoni is also the captain, wicketkeeper and batsman. He can change the phase of the match by his own at any time. The next day, Shri came to me and he told me, go buy Dhoni. ‘

It was never easy to buy Dhoni. Being the captain Dhoni was one of the most expensive players in the auction. The team somehow managed to buy Dhoni. Since then, he has been associated with this team and is one of the most successful captains of this tournament. Chennai Super Kings has become the IPL champion twice in the captaincy of Dhoni.
