Weird Marriage Laws Around The World You Never Knew Existed

As often we talk or hear about the bizarre traditions that persist in different parts of the world. Well, strange customs do not create surprise. Surprise is when we hear about unusual laws that are beyond our understanding. You will get shocked after knowing that there exist weird laws about marriages in different Countries of the world.

1) In France, a person can legally marry a dead person

Under article 172 of the Civil Code of France, if one of the spouses has died after completing marriage’s formalities, then the surviving partner can Marry legally to the deceased partner. This can only happen if there is clear consent of a dead partner in the marriage formality. The President of France can authorize such weddings. But the reason should be apt. This is called posthumous marriage. Anyone in France who want to have a posthumous marriage sends an application to the President.

2) In these 5 states of America, it is not compulsory for Bride and Groom to present at the wedding venue

Proxy Marriage is a trend in some US states. This is different from the college proxy. The proxy marriages in US, Kansas, California, Colorado, Texas and Montana are common. It has got a legal recognition here. But who will get pleasure from marrying alone? Those, whose girlfriends or boyfriends are in the military. The rule of proxy marriage is only for those who work in Armed Forces.

3) Saudi Arabian men can’t marry women from these 4 countries

These countries are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Chad and Burma. About five lakh women who belong to the mentioned countries are living in Saudi Arabia presently. This law is made to cease the increasing population of outsiders. According to a BBC news, except these countries, if a Saudi man has to marry a woman from another country then the person’s income should be more than Rs 50 Thousand. And the age criteria should be 40 years to 65 years. The non-Saudi woman should be at least 25 years old. The difference between the ages of spouses should not be more than 30 years.

If a Saudi woman has to marry a non-Saudi man, then she must be between 30 and 55 years of age. Also, there should be no difference of more than ten years in the ages of two.

4) Child marriage is legal in these countries

Husband and wife need a healthy body and mind to fulfil the responsibilities of marriage. Therefore, child marriage in most countries is prohibited. Marriage is considered illegal before a fixed age. But child marriage in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and South Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia and Somalia is legally valid.

5) There is no provision of Legal divorce in this country

Besides the Vatican City, the Philippines is the only country where there is no law for divorce. People who are unhappy with their marriage in the Philippines have very few options. Husbands who want to be separated can send an application to be legally separated in court, but they can’t end their marriage. Because of this, a separated husband and wife can not marry anyone else. This is because the Catholic Church has a great influence in the Philippines, which considers divorce against the religion.
