All You Need To Know About “Sex Ki Adalat”, A Hindi Web Series

We Indians are so scared of talking about sex. However, there are three categories of sex education in India-courses targeted at adolescents in school, family planning and HIV/AIDS Prevention Education. But also there are numerous misconceptions surrounding sex education in our country. In a fight against social stigma, a web series titled, “Sex Ki Adalat” has launched recently.

What Is Sex Ki Adalat?

Basically, Sex Ki Adalat is a five-part Hindi Web Series on sex education. The concept of the show focuses on masturbation, pornography, menstruation, virginity and various other social issues that are related to sex. Some people also categorised it as a joke on journalist Rajat Sharma’s talk-show Aap Ki Adalat.

What Is The Aim Of Sex Ki Adalat?

Sex Ki Adalat is produced by the Population Foundation of India that aims to educate young people and adolescents about critical issues like sexual and reproductive health. The series is set in an 80s-style courtroom with a male and female lawyer representing two sections.

The description of the first YouTube episode read as:

“Builds on the impact and success of the edutainment show Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon by the Population Foundation of India (PFI) and creator-director Feroz Abbas Khan.”

The first episode of Sex Ki Adalat talked about the sex-selection and it debunks misconceptions related to factors that determine the sex of a newborn. A case was filed by a woman against her husband.

The lawyer of the husband told the judge:

“Hum ko yeh chromosome-wali baat nahin maalum tha. X Kya Hota Hai, Y kya hota hai, hum ko nahin malum tha (I didn’t know about chromosomes. I didn’t know about X and Y).”

Second Episode Of Sex Ki Adalat

The second episode of Sex Ki Adalat was aimed at questioning the notions regarding virginity. The episode successfully raised a question that why there is a double standard of our society? as the virginity issue is only raised for women and never for men.
