Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif Banned by Supreme Court in Panama Papers Case

In a breaking news from Pakistan, its Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will have to step down immediately as the result of a corruption case. The decision is taken by the country’s top court, Supreme Court. A bench of 5 judges unanimously disqualified him as a member of Parliament.

Judge Ejaz Afzal Khan said in court,

“He is no more eligible to be an honest member of the Parliament, and he ceases to be holding the office of prime minister.”

His ruling PML-N party will have to name a replacement. An investigation has done on Nawaz Sharif in which his family failed to account his vast wealth. After this, the Supreme Court dismissed him. As per the reports, a criminal investigation would also be launched against the premier and his family.

In April 2017, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered an investigation team to probe the matter of corruption charges imposed on him. The team of civilian and military investigators found there was a “significant disparity” between the Sharif family’s income and lifestyle.

The Panama Corruption controversy came to light last year with the publication of 11.5 million secret documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca documenting the offshore dealings of many of the world’s rich and powerful. Not only Sharif’s but three of his four children – Maryam, his presumptive political heir, and his sons Hasan and Hussein — were involved in the case.
