Do Not Open This WhatsApp Message Otherwise You Will Get Trapped

WARNING: An old WhatsApp scam has resurfaced online which tricks people into giving their bank details to the scammers. The fraud comes in the form of a message which warns the Whatsapp users that their trial service is going to end.

According to the Mirror, it reads as: “Our records indicate that your WhatsApp trial service is exceeding the one-year period. At the completion of your trial period, your WhatsApp will no longer be able to send or receive message [sic]. To continue using WhatsApp without interruption [sic], we need you to subscribe for any of our subscription periods.”

The national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre of the United Kingdom, Action Fraud has issued a warning to all of its Whatsapp users in a blog post. They said: “Long term users of WhatsApp will remember paying a 0.99p annual fee to use the messaging service. In 2016, this was scrapped by Facebook who took over running of the company after buying it for £11.4bn. That means since 2016, the service has been free for every user.”

These Are The Points To Identify The Scam:

  1. The sender of this message asserts that he/she is officially attached to WhatsApp.
  2. According to the message, if you forward it, you can avoid account suspension and punishment.
