Police Registers FIR Against AIB Over Joke Against PM Narendra Modi

On Friday, an FIR has been registered against Tanmay Bhat and his comedy group AIB (All India Backchod) by Mumbai Police Cyber Cell for posting a meme about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, using the dog filter on Snapchat.

On July 12, the comedy group has tweeted a meme of Narendra Modi’s picture with a Snapchat dog filter.

A Twitter user tagged the Mumbai Police in his post and wrote: “Pradhan Mantri ke liye is taike ka behuda Mazak par @AllIndiaBakchod and @thetanmay par sakt karwayi honi chahiye (For posting such a cheap joke against PM Narendra Modi, Police should take strict action against AIB and Tanmay Bhat).”

Mumbai Police soon replied: “Thank you for bringing this to our notice. We are forwarding this to the cyber police station.”

AIB co-founder Tanmay Bhat tried to explain the matter and took to Twitter to share an old post of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s where he said: “We surely need more humour in public life.”

He later tweeted: “PS: Will continue making jokes. And deleting if necessary. And making jokes again. And Apologising if necessary. Don’t care what you think.”
