Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD or MH Day)

28th May is Menstrual Hygiene day focus to raise awareness about the importance of good Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) for women and adolescent girls worldwide.

Making menstrual hygiene management a priority worldwide

In many societies, menstruation is surrounded by stigma and misinformation. Inadequate menstrual hygiene management (MHM) directly affects women’s and girls’ self-esteem, health and education. 70% of girls in India have not heard about menstruation prior to menarche.

MH Day raises awareness of the challenges women and girls worldwide face due to their menstruation and highlights solutions that address these challenges, including through media work. It was first celebrated on 28th May 2014.

This day aims to create a world in which every woman and girl can manage her menstruation in a hygienic way – wherever she is – in privacy, safety and with dignity.

Menstrual Hygiene Day will help to break the silence and build awareness about the fundamental role that good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) plays in enabling women and girls to reach their full potential.

Here is a video “Hello Periods” which is an educational video that you can use to conduct a menstrual awareness workshop. It is important that the kids have access to Menstrupedia Comic during and after the workshop so that they can get their questions answered and understand each topic in detail at their own pace.
