Shivaay

Shivaay was known as Ajay Devgan’s dream film. The movie is a thriller drama and is produced and directed by Ajay himself. Ajay Devgan plays the lead role with debutant Sayesha Saigal as the female lead.

The movie is written by Sandeep Srivastava and it earned more that 146 crores in the box office. So, we can definitely say that it was a huge box office success.

Rustom

Rustom was one among the must watch movies of 2016. The movie was based on true incidents from Naval Officer K. M. Nanavati’s life. Akshay Kumar plays the role of Navy officer Rustom and Ileana DCruz plays the character of his wife.

Rustom was directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and was a huge box office hit. The movie, which costed 50 crores for production, bagged a whopping 216 crore at the box office.

Dear Zindagi

Dear Zindagi is the movie of our generation. A lot of us can relate to this movie, which makes it one among the best movies of 2016. The movie stars Alia Bhatt and Shahrukh Khan in leading roles.

The movie is about a young girl who becomes a victim of anxiety and depression due to her past, and how meetings with her psychologist helps her see the world in a different way. The movie is written and directed by Gauri Shinde.

Udta Punjab

The movie written by Abishek Choubey addresses the horrible scenario of drug abuse in Punjab and how it has effected the youth. Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhat, and Diljit Dosanj play the main characters in the movie.

The movie was produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor and it was a topic for many controversies due to the kind of language used and censorship related issues.

Dangal

Dangal is the highest grossing Indian film in the world. It collected an amount around 2,122 crores. The movie is about traditional wrestling in India and also about a patriarchal society. Aamir Khan, who plays the role of a failure in winning gold medal for his country in wrestling trains his daughters to realize his dreams.

The story is about the upbringing and training of the girls despite of the social pressures. Their emotional resistance, struggles, and hard work clearly is a wonderful combination to watch on screen. The film is directed by Ritesh Tiwari.

Neerja

Neerja is a biographical throller based on the life of Neerja Bhanot, a young air hostess. The Pan Am flight in which Neerja worked as a flight attendant gets hijacked by terrorists, but she manages to make sure she does everything to keep them safe. However, she sacrifices her life in the end of the movie.

The movie is directed by Ram Madhvani and Sonam Kapoor plays the role of Neerja Bhanot. Shabana Azmi gives a memorable performance as Neerja’s mother in the movie.

Airlift

Airlift is a movie based on real life incidents of an Indian businessman, Ranjit Katiyal. The whole story unravels during the Iraq invasion of Kuwait. Ranjit tries his best to get the Indians who are stuck in Kuwait back to his country.

The movie is directed by Raja Krishna Menon and the character Ranjit is played by Akshay Kumar. Nimrat Kaur plays the role of his wife.

MS Dhoni: An Untold Story

The movie was one among the most awaited movies of 2016. Neeraj Pandey shrewdly designed the story of our beloved cricket team captain MS Dhoni. Sushant Singh Rajput is the protagonist in the movie. Disha Patani and Kiara Advani are the leading ladies in the film.

Kapoor and Sons

Kapoor and sons is a family drama directed by Shakun Batra. Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhottra, Fawad Khan, and Rishi Kapoor play major roles in the movie. The movie is about two brothers who visit their grandfather, and gets their emotions messed up because of a girl who comes into their lives.
