Three F-35B Pilots of the Italian Navy recently achieved the "Limited Combat Ready" qualification after completing training at the 32nd Wing of the Italian Air Force.
This training is part of the collaboration within the JSF Program that the two Italian armed forces have finalized in order to complete the training of Navy pilots who have previously started the basic module (ground school) at the US Marine Corps air base in Beaufort, United States.
The Italian Air Force therefore took on this complex need in the context of collaboration between the Defense departments, while ensuring the standard training activities of personnel and systems of the 32nd Wing.
The activity involved a team of instructor pilots and technical personnel from both the Air Force and the Navy coordinated by the 32nd Wing. During the course, the attending pilots participated in various flight activities and different types of missions in order to reach the appropriate level of preparation to operate the STOVL (Short Take Off and Vertical Landing) variant of the F-35.
The collaboration between the two armed forces will continue with a new LCR qualification course for two other Navy pilots which has already started a few weeks ago at the 32nd Wing. After obtaining the LCR, training will continue at the flight groups of the respective Armed Forces.
