Rumination

It's easy to ruin a good thing if you think about it enough times. Thinking, evaluating, and self reflection? Great. Overthinking, ruminating? The worst.
Trust in your journey, and trust in yourself. I used to overthink so much that I couldn't enjoy anything. I would be scared that if I stopped overthinking, I would become dumb, unaware, and shallow. I thought overthinking meant I was smart, observant, and self reflective; but what I didn't know, is that not overthinking, doesn't take those qualities away. It's so easy to be unhappy with your life, when you are constantly holding it up to a magnifying glass, and when you are the one living in it and don't know how to balance reflection and Rumination. Create a plan, and the steps you can take to stay on track with your plan. Trust your plan, and trust that it will work out how it wants to work out, you have done all you need to do. Trust your journey, there is no need to overthink. Overthinking will not get you where you need to be any faster, it will stall you, and take you away from the present moment.
Here are my tips to avoid overthinking:
1. Open your journal, write it down, close the book. As you close the book, imagine your mind closing the door to that topic. Your thought is written down somewhere safe, no need to think it over longer.
2. Set your timer for 10 minutes max. Organize and collect your thoughts, once the timer goes off, trust that you have done all the analyzing you need to do.
3. Walk and Talk. Get outside into the fresh air, plan where you are going to walk, once you arrive back home, trust you have done all the overthinking you need. Now it's time to be mindful and present so you can have a clear mind.
