The Story We Tell

We all play a Character in life. No one is themselves 100% of the time, you just can't be; instead, we become a different version of ourself.
We know our friend, but we don't really fully know anyone. People tend to show us what they want to show us, not the other way around. There is a reason we all have the friend who maybe exaggerates a bit too much, or the one who always has drama just appear in her life, or the one who is such a bookworm and is always studying. The truth is, we all have a little bit of these traits, but those friends just enhance that part of themselves, because that is the Story they wish to tell. I work out consistently, but I'm not known as the "gymshark friend", because that is not the story I choose to tell at this point. The problem with these stories, is that it is so easy to put ourselves in a box, now that people have us labelled.
When you are upset, sad, or Depressed; you being to tell that story. You begin to tell that story not to others, but to yourself. This is dangerous because once we start saying, "I am depressed", we are now becoming just that. Instead of labelling your feeling and emotions as who you now are, try talking and thinking about them as if they are a person that can come and go. Notice when, or why they come around, and how you might distance yourself from them. Once we start to label, and overthink our every thought and feeling, we start to create a story of ourselves, and consequently begin to live it. We should be cautious of the story we tell to others and ourselves so we don't start acting out a character we do not wish to play.
