Steven Soderbergh plans Panama Papers drama

Steven Soderbergh has explored real-world issues through a particular genre lens in the past, often with Scott Z. Burns writing the script. The pair is looking to reunite for another project, with Soderbergh developing a film about the Panama Papers revelations.

Burns, who wrote Contagion, Side Effects and The Informant! is likely to return for this one, which is to be adapted from Pulitzer Prizewinner Jake Bernstein's upcoming book Secrecy World. He was part of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists that in April broke the news about the Panama Papers, leaking more than 11 mullion documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.

The papers revealed the financial skulduggery of a variety of wealthy people, rulers and politicians who had been looking to either evade taxes or cover up illegal activity. Iceland's Prime Minister resigned immediately after the release and we're still learning about new names involved.

According to Deadline, Soderbergh is primarily producing the film at the moment, but may well end up directing it. For now, however, he's busy preparing to direct heist movie Logan Lucky, which includes the likes of Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig and Adam Driver.
