What Are 2016’s Most Popular Film-Inspired Halloween Costumes?

There are some great films for fashion lovers, with productions like Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory inspiring Halloween costume ideas the world over, throughout the years. You may be interested to learn that new research has revealed the most popular film-inspired Halloween costumes for 2016.

Landmark research

Lifestyle news site Refinery 29 reports that this data was compiled by Fandango, a movie news portal. In order to determine popular costume ideas from 2016 films for this scariest of nights of, the Fandango team polled over 1,000  moviegoers. They found  that Halloween 2016 will be all about superheroes!

Superheroes rule

Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad was named the top women’s Halloween costume choice for this year. Played by the talented Margot Robbie, Harley Quinn is a crazed supervillain who just screams punk rock rebel. It is easy to see why women want to adopt Harley’s vibrant two-tone pigtails, sparkly clothing, ripped t-shirt and baseball bat this Halloween, as it’s the perfect mix between fabulous and horrifying.

Fandango found that Ryan Reynolds’ title character from the superhero film Deadpool was the most popular men’s Halloween film-based costume choice for 2016. This head-to-toe, classic black and red superhero’s outfit, complete with daunting mask and impressive weaponry, is fast-becoming iconic.

Popular choices

More characters from superhero films appeared on the women’s list. This includes Wonder Woman from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,  who has been a popular choice for a while now. Two characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the classic Alice from Alice Through The Looking Glass also made this list.

As for the men, the top two choices following Deadpool also came from superhero flicks. Suprising no-one, they were Captain America from Captain America: Civil War, whose Black Widow and Scarlet Witch also made the women’s list and Batman, a costume idea which has been popular with men for decades.

Finding great ideas

In other words if you want to be on trend this Halloween, you may want to channel your favourite superhero. You can buy popular superhero or villain costumes ala Harley Quinn from online retailers such as ASOS and eBay, securing great deals. Alternatively, you can pick up the required materials from charity and crafts stores, get your sewing kit out and develop your own costume this Halloween!
