Maria (Lea van Acken) is 14 and lives with her parents and three siblings in a small town in southern Germany. They are all strict Catholics and are part of the (fictional) Society of St. Paul.
“Stations of the Cross” convincingly grapples with religious imagery and metaphors and their fundamentalist interpretation, while also painting the oppressive portrait of a family.
