Salvage Artist, A New Kind of Profession

So, what is a Salvage Artist?
Very simple; a Salvage Artist is an artist that uses Recycled materials when creating artwork.
Though some artists use some recycled materials, Stormy Eye Design takes this practice to the next level.

Recycle
/rēˈsīk(ə)l/
Verb
To convert (waste) into reusable material

Think of a Salvage Artist as someone who cares about the environment and wants to see less waste going into the landfill. Every day perfectly usable materials are thrown away and added to the supersized landfills that ruin the environment and property value of land nearby.

Stormy Eye Design encourages you to try a One Day Challenge. Write down all the things you throw away in a day. See how much accumulates. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll find!

Look at your list at the end of the day and see if you can spot anything that could be recycled or reused. Many times you’ll find cardboard and plastic, things you can be easily recycled or burned to save waste.

Stormy Eye Design works with many types of recycled and reused materials.
1.      Recycled Newspaper
All newspaper used in Stormy Eye Design art projects are from local thrift shops, local people, and local churches.
2.      Reused Picture Frames
All picture frames come from local community owned thrift shops. Stormy Eye Design buys the picture frames before there sent to the landfill. Each frame is cleaned and occasionally repainted and sealed.
3.      Wood from Fallen Trees
Heather Annie Salvatore uses local wood. The process starts with a thunderstorm that knocks down local trees. Then Heather rushes in and hand cut the trees with a handsaw. All leftover wood is used for cooking and other environmentally friendly uses.
4.      Other Reused, Saved Wood and Materials
The rest of the materials are saved from local businesses before they find themselves in the landfill. Some items include sequins, aqua gems, untreated wood, and trinkets.

Remember, Stormy Eye Design’s artist is a Salvage Artist. She actively works to keep everyday materials out of landfills. You can start recycling and create beautiful masterpieces! Even the smallest amount of items out of landfills can make a difference!

Stormy Eye Design now has an active Etsy account! All artwork is made with at least one recycled or reused item. For every item sold, $10 will be donated to the Scleroderma Research Foundation to raise awareness of Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease that can severely alter a person’s mobility and health.

Stormy Eye Design works on commission! If you have a special request, please contact Stormy Eye Design’s Etsy Account or Heather Annie Salvatore directly.

Remember, everyone has a Wild Side! It’s only a matter of time before yours shines through!
