Morbid Fascination: Serial Killers

It sounds alarming, I know. Bear with me and read this with an open mind.

At a young age I was exposed to Horror Thriller movies. Instead of getting scared and have nightmares, I fell in love with it. There was a couple of Movie characters that I admired as child, and this is where it gets unusual. I remember loving the character of Rachael Newman (Mila Kunis)—the Serial killer from the movie American Psycho 2. I found her cool and I wanted to be like her. I would reenact scenes from the movie or pose like her in front of the mirror. I adored her character as a child.

But my ultimate favorite serial killer as a child was from a Mexican ‘Telenovela’ called La mujer de Judas. It was aired on our local television dubbed in our language. What made me so fascinated by her is that to keep her identity hidden she wears a long white gown with blood stains on it. I remember I would dress up as her as child for no reason. I fancied her ensemble. There is something about it that I love and can’t quite put my finger on it.

To this day, I am still fascinated by Serial Killers. This time, not from movies but real life serial killers like Jack the Ripper. By no means I am condoning or praising what they have done. I am simply fascinated and I wanted to know what goes through their heads. What made them gone mad? Curiosity is my middle name. Watching serial killer documentaries is both entertaining and enigmatic.
